Thread nest on the bottom is usually caused by improper tension or thread path on top.
In my featherweight, I use Singer needles, Organ, and mostly Schmetz. I think Schmetz is the best. Always start with a thread starter, a small piece of fabric where you take the first four stitches, and then leave that connected, take a stitch on air, and start your seam. |

Nope, Featherweights use the regular old 15x1 needles. On in Singer vernacular 2020s.
But remember, they go flat to the left, and thread right to left. Joe |
I use Schmetz needles in all of my machines, never had a problem; good quality needles. I have featherweights,Singer and Pfaff treadles,Berninas .

Interesting reading these posts, as I have a MW Damascus Grand treadle machine, and a Singer 99K that I'm working on getting into sewing shape. Thank you for the info on the needle sizes!

jojo,
Your Singer 99K takes the standard household needle (15x1) just as the Featherweight does. The Damascus takes a 20x1 needle. The 20x1 is about 4mm longer than the 15x1. The 15x1 will work if you lower the needle down about 4 mm before tightening the needle clamp. Cathy
