Featherweight speed control issue

Working on a Featherweight. When I apply 120 VAC to the motor pins it runs.
The controller puts out +- 3 to about 54 then jumps to 120 at full stop.
When I connect the controller to the machine it doesn't run.
I've opened up the pins a bit for better contact...I've attached the controller
to the machine using clip leads to no avail.
Tried another controller - same issue.
Help?

Ok this is obviously not a FW. but you are getting your strangeness when you are clipped to these three leads??
Have you tried the controllers on other machines? seems odd that both controllers would act the same.

I am wondering if the lamp changes its output as you run the controller.

Yes - 120 directly to pins 1 and 2 cause the motor to run.
Connecting the controller(s) to all three in proper sequence results in...nothing.
Lamp doesn't vary but it does come on when the controller(s) are connected so
power is coming through - at least the direct 120 which powers the lamp.
I don't have another Singer here to try :-(

Edit: It's the controller(s). Odd that two should be bad but I recalled my wife's old
Singer Console in the basement. Took the controller off..the wires were shedding their insulation
so I switched for good wires from one of the FW controllers ...aaaannd it ran. So did the other
FW I have here which also wouldn't run on the original controllers.

That is so odd, but it is what I was guessing. You may want to look up on how to servcie the controllers. or replacements are cheap.

Yes - I've ordered an electronic controller. Thanks for your replies!

The Featherweight Shop has a video on how to work on the wires. They are fabulous.
