Featherweight wiring

I picked up another featherweight at an estate sale yesterday. Somehow it made it to 1/2 price day even though it was even pictured in the Craigslist ad. So of course I had to rescue it. I cleaned and old/lubed it last night and it runs perfectly. The issue is the wiring. It came with a different foot pedal that is hardwired into the machine. The bottom of the male receptacle is broken and the wires are stuck through and hooked directly to the machine. It looks ugly and I don't like it, lol. The plug is still wired to the removable female piece. It's weird.

My gut is to fix it and put it back. I have a spare set of wires already connected to a new plug. Sooooo any reasons you can think of why I shouldn't put it back to rights? Should I try to find a bake light pedal or is the replacement decent enough?

I don't have an answer about your wiring, just wanted to say congratulations on finding the FW at the estate sale!! How lucky that no one saw it before you did!!!

misskira,

I detest jury rigged wiring. I'd have to make it right. Nothing wrong in that at all.

People saw it... Just no one bought it. He had it priced at $200 and said its the first fw that he's had last for over an hour and all the others he sold at over $300. The case looks decent and will clean up but the latches and one hinge are broken. The machine has a scroll faceplate and has some scratches and dings but just needed a good cleaning and shine. It came with all it's attachments plus 2 zig zag and 3 buttonhole attachments. Only a partial manual and one screwdriver. He had pictures up all 3 days and called it the right name, so I'm not sure why it didn't sell. I was there at open to get it half price but I'm sure someone else would have bought it at that price if I didn't.

Now that I've replaced the aged parts and cleaned it up I'm sure someone will love it and use it.
