Hubby put the cabinet all back together and we set the machine in again. I think it refinished nicely! Now I want to do some piecing with her. She's still nameless, any suggestions?

Cute! I have a 99 in the same cabinet, but it is in much rougher shape. I'm in the process of figuring out what I want to do with it. Very nice job on the cabinet!

miriam 02-01-2012 03:22 PM

I like those little 99s - looks nice and you have a very nice cabinet - usually see those in a case.

cabbagepatchkid 02-01-2012 03:42 PM

It looks great!! Are there any "before" pics of the cabinet?

COYOTEMAGIC 02-01-2012 03:52 PM

Beautiful. I think her name is Ruth.

No, I don't have any before pictures. The cabinet was solid and looked pretty good, except the top had water damage and was very rough. We chose a darker stain color. The machine only needed some polishing up and a cleaning and of course oiling.

lindy-2 02-01-2012 04:10 PM

jillnjo,
She's beautiful! The cabinet looks terrific, too. Good job hubber.

Since you choose to put your avatar quilt on her for her photo shoot, maybe 'Ava' would be appropriate???

best,
deb

Rosewood9 02-01-2012 07:12 PM

beautiful restoration! Why not call her Natalie?

barny 02-01-2012 07:16 PM

Maybe she is a he. How about Newbee? After all your husband redid the cabinet didn't he? ha. Barny P.s. He is handsome too!

mo-rie 02-01-2012 08:25 PM

Name for your 99

I have a 99K which also needs a name. Since he is so heavy and cute, I have decided to name him "Thomas, the Tank".

miriam 02-02-2012 03:11 AM

How about Pearl - like Pearl of great price and a lot of work

Yooper32 02-02-2012 04:08 AM

girliegirl 02-02-2012 04:49 PM

She is nice! I have a 99k that was given to me.. She is now called JuJu after Art's wife.... Judy. But I was thinking on calling her Midgie after all she is only 3/4 size so I thought of Midget... my JuJu is in the carry case.

She is so cute sitting on her pretty cabinet. How about calling her "Little Bit"?

Celeste 02-02-2012 09:22 PM

They look so nice! What color stain did you use? I like all the name ideas too!

grandma.me 02-03-2012 04:57 AM

Can you tell me a little more about the cabinet? I have the 99k and I just love it. I didn't know there was a cabinet for it. Mine is the portable one. Would ebay be the best place to look for one? Love hearing about everyone's 99k's.
Marilyn

I found this machine in the cabinet at a local re-run store. I'm not familiar with the many details concerning vintage machines! I've been told the 99s are seldom in cabinets, but don't know why, ect. The cabinet is made of hardwood with a veneer on it.

The stain is American Colonial in a gel form. It looks similiar to a light walnut.

Grandma Cindy 02-03-2012 09:10 PM

Jack...............

jillnjo 02-04-2012 06:28 AM

Grandma- that's a great idea, but Jack is our dog's name and I can't be calling for 2 things at the same time! !

Thanks, I was thinking some kind of Cherry. . .

oksewglad 02-05-2012 06:21 PM

How about "Jewel"? One word can say it all. Great job refurbishing, T.

deedum 02-09-2012 06:55 PM

I agree, they are a neat little machine.

How great to have a finished machine 99K. I have a nice little 99, I really need to refinish the cabinet though.

jillnjo 02-09-2012 07:23 PM

I've been doing some peicing with my 99 and it runs so nicely! These old machines just grow on me and I don't have room for them!! I'm almost sure I'll drag another one home one of these days.
Deedum, I don't know if I'd get anything refinished myself, but hubby enjoys it, so I benefit!!
