FMQ with 15 91????

I have a 15 91 and want to do some FMQ with it,, the machine did not come with a darning foot or FMQ foot so I bought two feet. one has a plastic part on the toe with some lines on it and the other one has a metal part that is a open toe, the problem is the foot fits but when you put the foot lever down there is no room to move the fabric around to quilt under the foot... Is there a adjustment to make the foot higher when putting the foot lever down ..

I did go to LeaDays site and see where she did some adjustments to her feet by putting a hair band around the top part of the foot so it stays more up when the foot lever is down.. do you think this will work?

Is there any other tips that might help me start my FMQ with this machine... Thanks

I didn't have that problem with my 15 clone. The foot works just fine. Mine is one with the open metal toe though that doesn't mean much. I don't know how many places make them. It might help to release some of the pressure on the presser foot. Have you tried a test sandwich yet to see how it works when the machine is running?

I just use an old darning foot and it works just fine.

is it the screw thing on the top that will release the pressure on the presser foot? I'll try and see what happens, I haven't looked inside the machine where you would lubricate the motor yet but will try.. thanks

My 15s do not have a quick release on the foot tension. You would have to reset it when you are done doing FM. A lot of the clones DO have quick release. You could get a quick release and put it on your machine if you want to.

Miriam - what is a quick release? I'm still trying to make an electric 15 -not from scratch of course :p but with two, different machines. Never heard of a quick release.

I'm going to do a new thread about quick releases. I found out about quick releases by accident. Well, I pushed the stupid button and it popped and my machine quit sewing... WHAT????????

If you have a hopping foot, the foot only is UP when the needle is up, so if it's not going up - you may have it installed wrong.

The pressure and all that should not matter - as the needle bar is what makes it hop.

And if you did not get a hopping foot - I would suggest getting one.

on the second picture - see the bar that rides on top of the needle screw? that is what picks up the foot and allows you to move the fabric. Otherwise it holds the fabric down just like any other foot.

BTW - the darning feet I have that are original Singer are rather short. They actually do not come into contact with the bed of the machine when the foot is down. They work best when you can keep a good tension on the item you are sewing, either with firm hand pressure or in a hoop.

With my viking, it recommends decreasing the foot pressure, but that machine has an easy dial to turn. It's as easy to change the pressure as it is the tension.

I did a bit of FMQ with my White 670. The hoping foot would not fit so I used a darning foot and released the pressure. After a bit I went back to the 15 that the hopping foot fit well.
