How much did they ask for the one you saw on Craig's List

SandyQuilter 02-28-2011 08:00 AM

I have one just like it. Lovely. I clamp my antique third hand on it. It has hand loomed linen on the pin cushion and 2 hand turned spools, plus the metal is all hand forged with hearts. It must have been a bride's gift from her groom.

Congratulations on your great find. I am sure it will be a wonderful addition to your collection and am so excited to hear how she sews.

WendyMathews58 02-28-2011 08:29 PM

I have never heard of that manufacturer, but, I have to admit, the Willcox & Gibbs has a unique beauty. Is that a British company?

Auntie B 02-28-2011 08:35 PM

She's beautiful, I've never heard of that brand, is it American ? How about Willa ? Do you know where she was born?

Mine apparently had years of wear as most of the gold is rubbed off. But there is some on the back still. I have it in the corner of the room so it was hard to get a photo of the back. It's a neat machine! According to the Sewsalot site, mine was born in 1900. Hope these pictures come out right, always have trouble getting them on.

Back of machine with gold not rubbed off.

I have a Willcox & Gibbs that was my grandmother's but its electric. I've been afraid to plug it in. But I do have the manual & all the attachments & its beautiful

PunkQuilter 03-01-2011 04:18 PM

What an elegant, beautiful machiine. I just love the foot shaped treadle. Another piece of history saved.

susie-susie-susie 03-01-2011 04:21 PM

I showed the picture to my husband and said "I want one of these". He said he saw a machine like that in the shoe repair shop. He said it was made to sew leather. Funny because that is what happymrs said earlier in this discussion. I was so surprised when he acted like everyone has one of these. Is it possible that there were several models of similar machines? Of course the shoe repair is long gone.

Beautiful!

The stenciling reminds me of black stenciled wooden chairs and tables back in the 60s/70s. I always wanted a set, but couldn't afford it back then. When I finally had the money, they were no longer a hot item. Anyone remember the name of the furniture?

I live in the Bay Area, and I look daily at CLs. If I remember correctly, the person was asking around $150 for Heyjami's chain stitcher. Two weeks prior to that posting another machine like hers was listed for $75 on CL. I'm noticing that folks are asking more for machines now. Here is a very rare and unique machine on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/220744676471.

ann31039 03-02-2011 04:01 PM

the one on the raliegh, nc craigslist was 350.

JEM65 03-02-2011 05:37 PM

What a wonderful machine! I have never seen one of these before...thanks for sharing! Enjoy!

jojo47 03-13-2011 02:13 PM

I just got to reading these posts today (haven't been very active on this board due to work)...I've seen pics of the Willcox & Gibbs machine some time back when I was looking at a history of the sewing machine...she is truly a lovely girl! Enjoy yourselves!

Rumbols 03-14-2011 08:18 AM

What cool machines. Lucky ladies to find good homes and care givers.

Hello, I hope you don't mind me popping in with my questions. This thread came up in a search while I was trying to research my advertising spoon before I list it.

My spoon says F.C. Henderson Company Boston Mass. Noiseless Certified Sew Machines. At first I thought Henderson was the manufacturer, but now I'm wondering if Henderson is the supplier? Any thoughts on this ad spoon would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
~Holly

PS: Love how you name your sewing machines. I'm in The Vintage Tablecloth Lovers Club and we name our mangles!

tammy cosper 04-20-2011 08:22 PM

Very Pretty

Jammin' Jane 04-20-2011 08:46 PM

Oh my goodness. I learn something new everyday. I never saw anything like this!!!! Beautiful

I found an ATQ Wheeler & Wilson Treadle Sewing Machine&Cab ` (8641598) on the Goodwill.com auction site. I do not know enough about them to determine the model number. I wish I lived closer but no such luck. It is local pick-up only. If anyone here lives close enough you might be interested. I think the number in parenthesis is the item number.

QuiltingJaguar 10-02-2011 12:24 PM

Lordy Lordy what a fine you made and sounds like nice people to deal with also. I have never seen the likes of this one, wild, enjoy and let us hear more from you on it.

maryjbird 10-02-2011 01:13 PM

My DH got into collecting older sewing machines for a while. Now he is into another collectible that does not take up as much room. He had them stashed everywhere. I suppose that's why I still browse old sewing machines on almost every auction site I find.

dixiebelle162002 10-02-2011 01:17 PM

very, very nice! :D :D

heyjami 07-22-2012 07:17 PM

She sews beautifully! I don't know anything about that spoon that was posted. Sorry. :-)
Maybe it was part of a show give-away?

Still no decision on the name.

Interestingly, I was in SFO a few weeks ago and there was a Sewing Display with lots of antique sewing machines, quilts, patterns, everything sewing. Not a single machine there even compared to the condition of my beauty. Actually, my featherweight was nicer than the one displayed (and mine has use wear on the decals big time).

misskira 07-22-2012 08:12 PM

Hazel. It looks like a Hazel to me. :)

You have my dream machine.

nanna-up-north 07-23-2012 04:26 AM
