Franken-Zilla
 

Hello people, I am almost finished with Francine ( franki for short) she is my Franken-zilla or chrome-zilla
however you want to look at it. She is a 1948 blackside.... that came to me as a stripped frame, She was going to be parts for my centenial, but i couldn't do it. She ended up using up a auction house lot of older 128 parts, and is now chromed out, sporting grape leaf scrolls (back side too) no blackside at all, even the older school larger spoked hand wheel. Just a few more minor parts and she will be complete.

Cute! I had to laugh at the franken-zilla as I call a few of my machines waiting to be worked on "franken" projects. :)

I like Franki! She sure is cute.

It is amazing how many parts will interchange on other machines. I bet you'll be glad you didn't give up on her. She needs a little pink spool holder felt to set off her brown finish.

well .... yes and no. not giving up on her has left me with a complete centennial blackside that has a bent main shaft( somebody dropped it and it hit the handwheel) so it binds just slightly... trying to decide if I try to buy another shaft or if i take the shaft out and head to the shop and try to straighten it ( I can do that kind of work........... years of working in the automotive/aviation/recreational racing field have taught me a little ) but man what a pain.........

I do like Franki though, that big wheel makes her run SO smooth. She may end up being my hardened military cased deployment machine ;-) she is also the oldest of my 3 (1947)
Decisions Decisions

I had a Singer 99 with a bent shaft. I was able to put on a big spoked wheel and a hand crank - it worked 'ok' like that - just a bit wobbly. I do like to hand crank when I am camping. I even mended a 10 X 12 bell end wedge tent with it - I was sitting on the ground. It reminded me of the pic I saw of the Indian women sewing with hand crank sewing machine sitting on the ground out doors. http://www.flickr.com/photos/floridamemory/2987124452/ None of them are me.
