[ATTACH=CONFIG]451867[/ATTACH][ATTACH=CONFIG]451868[/ATTACH] This was given to me and I am wondering if anyone can help me remove the head so I can do some things vs to it like oil it. We just can not figure it out. Also we can not get the back cover plate off. Not sure what to call it but it is behind needle. Thank you kind people for any help you can give me and if anyone can help me date it I would like that too.

thinking that the knob in front either unscrews or pushes down to release a catch. That's assuming you can see a apair of hinges on the back

The hinges appear to be in the front and when I removed the front screw the
re was nothing happening.

you did remove the belt? of course...

this is your sewing machine it is called Davis Hummingbird Sewing Machine.

That doesn't look like the same machine. The spool pin is in the wrong place and the above doesn't have the thingy in the middle. Both are cool machines though.

You may have needed to put Davis in your title. There are experts on Davis machines around here. I have never seen one.

I believe that you completely remove the thumbscrew (circled in red on photo), and with the belt off of the handwheel, tip the machine back slightly, and lift the machine up. It should slide off of two hinge pins inserted into the rear of the machine head. There usually aren’t any grub screws to loosen on these hinge pins.

Your empty cabinet top should look like the photo of mine when the machine is out. Be careful when you set the machine head down on a flat surface. It may not want to set up straight, and kind of have a rounded-bottom feel to it. They weren’t all built to set on a flat surface.

This one sits up just fine (mine didn't come with a cabinet). BTW- I checked and mine has no set screws, so yours should just lift off.

As to the plate, just needs some oil and let sit for a bit. Don't force anything.

you have the updated version (so do I) - so far I've not found a manual for style tensioner.

Did you get any attachments? I think they are the best part, and a big reason I had to get one of these.
