Free Westinghouse motor question
Help! I’m hoping someone knows how to put the motor back in place. I struggling to understand how the motor stays in place.
it was hard to remove, but it finally came off and I cleaned the brushes and attached a new cord . Any help would be appreciated Thanks |
Can you post some pictures? Of the motor, machine, etc?

Not quite what you are after, but These are both Westinghouse motors. the one on the swing away in on a White.
The fixed done is on a New Home. Related to Free. Do either look familiar? |
Hello!
I’m sorry that I couldn’t figure out how to post a picture. A woman on a Facebook group “ Vintage Sewing Machines” told me about the spring that pushes up the motor. I finally got it going. Now I’m working on the stitches... it doesn’t loop the thread around the bobbin. I am trying a new needle. Thanks so much. BTW it is a half dome motor- turtle? Motor. This is the most awkward machine to work on. Not like a singer. |
Well not so fast! I may have wired it wrong. It is running backwards. If I set the stitches per inch to say 6, it feeds backwards.

unlikely the wiring. AC electricity usually won't run a motor backwards. pull the motor away from the hand wheel and hopefully you will see it spinning the correct direction. And BTW if you leave this machine idle for more than a week you might want to put half a clothes pin between the motor and the side. The friction wheels can develop flat spots. I am guessing your problem is in the stich length control. I don't have one near right now though.
And welcome aboard. |
Does it stich in the right directions at other stitch lengths?

Yes, the stitch control looks like that one. Very normal type...
I had to go do grocery shopping. Ugh! I hate when things get in the way of my machine repairs😜. Ha ha. I will work on posting a picture later. I hope it is just something silly and easy to fix. Thanks for all the help |
We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf
