FW case care?
 

I'm a new owner to a FW. And of course want to learn all about the care of FW's. I've read how to oil and clean machine itsself but how do you clean and care for the case? My case is in great shape and I would like to keep it that way.

I use black shoe polish on mine. Buff and shine.

I used Scuff Coat liquid shoe polish to cover any worn spots, and then I rubbed on black shoe paste and buffed it to a shine. The case looks great now!

Thanks to all of you that responded to this thread. Loved the stories of Grandmother's and also Mother's FW. How wonderful to know their history and have such a special FW.

I used a product called "Lexol leather conditioner" I know the FW cases are not real leather, but this product cleans and gives a slight gloss. It doesn't have any dye, so can be used on the green cases too. I got it at a shoe repair shop.

You know those little packets that you find in some products that are supposed to help wick the moisture? Well, I use them in my cases. I also read someplace not to store them on a carpeted floor - not really sure why though. Mine sit on my hardwood floors and in the back of my car. Mine didn't smell when I got them and after four or five years, they still don't so it must be working.

please don't leave sewing machines in the trunk or inside a vehicle in cold weather and then bring inside because they will sweat and cause rust. They need the same heat we do in the wintertime. Extra condensation can add to the musty smell so many machines have. The FW man from Texas says to store half a bar of Safeguard soap in the case to keep it fresh. Leave it in the box though to prevent it form touching items.
