We'll be heading out early tomorrow - heading for the upper corner of Nebraska.

See if you can guess what we'll be picking up. Ok, so the easy part is that it's a sewing machine . . .

Here is a clue, I already own a machine like this, but the cabinet is one of the last I'm looking for to complete my cabinet collection.

Is it the Singer Parlor cabinet? Have a safe trip.

It is Singer, but not a treadle.

I'd love to find an older style, open middle parlor cabinet. It's shown in the early manuals I have. Or one with the embossing on it.

BTW - this is also one of the most expensive Singer cabinets to buy.

Oh, I can't wait to see pictures. I would love to see pictures of your cabinet collection.

We picked up the machine and cabinet. Stopped at a few other places. Almost bought a White in the neat cabinet legged treadle, but decided they wanted a bit too much for the condition and the would not budge on price.they figured they ed already priced it concurring the condition. Looked like it had been there for years. I think they wanted to keep it as a display table. They had all kinds of stuff on top. FDid pickup some stuff at another place then stopped for food. Time to hit the road again.

You and the hub seem to have so much fun on the road. My son and DH opened a dance hall here last year, so for over a year now I have had to pout and threaten with a lawyer to do the road trips that we had become accustomed to for a few years. Now he spends all his time on the phone, looking for help for Saturday night, and going to Sam's on Thursday for snacks, etc. Gave me lots of personal time for sewing, but I still miss my traveling. And the beach trips, and the fun things with the grandkids. Oh well, he has it up for sale now, so maybe I'll have my day again.

Until my foot is doing a bit better 2 hrs one way is pretty much my limit. Anymore than that I could get where I'm going but I wouldn't enjoy it. I figure my foot and leg will be healed enough to travel by next year if things stay stable. I do miss being able to drive long distances at the drop of a hat.
Whining over.

Enjoy your trip and I think we all need to see the one cabinet you don't have yet. :)

We're home finally - almost 12 hours from when we set out - though not all that was spent driving. We went to Homer NE, and then back through Yankton SD.

When I found the add - it was listed from a place on the south side of Omaha, and DH got excited about going to Omaha for the day- but it turned out to be just a but south of Sioux City - the very soon to be retired couple bought a new house, and he's still spending some time at the old one. She's move most of her sewing stuff, but not what she decided to sell.

She also had three other older machines, a Singer 99K, a neat Wilcox and Gibbs early electric in a neat square wood box, and a very rough GE Sewhandy - no box or cords/pedal, but it did have the bobbin and bobbin case. I was tempted to take them all home, but the one I was after was going to take just about all my spending allowance, and I already have examples of the other three.

We did get what we came for and loaded it up, the stopped at another place just south of Yankton, and I found something I just had to bring home, and DH found something he really liked, and I wasn't about to discorage him LOL!! (OK, so I about twisted his arm when he was dithering over it).

Here is the back of the van - it's a pretty full load. The item carefully wrapped in the blanket is what I was after. The big white thing is what I wanted, and the other is DH's find.

And my "I have to have this" item. I was walking around and found it tucked in a corner with a bunch of stuff on it. I called "Hubby, you have to come see this " and the older store owner said "Oh, you found the mangle". Yea, I found an Ironrite Mangle. And it does work.

It came with the manual in about brand new conditon, and some other orignal paperwork.

Not that I needed another FW - but she was part of the deal. The seller bought her and the cabinet 20 years ago, and she did not come with the case. I've got cases for the others, so this one can stay in the cabinets where she's been living for some time now.

And the cabinet - one of the hardest and most expensive Singer cabinets to aquire.

From what I've read, Singer only made them this way for a short time. Most have a ledge the machine sits on, and you pick it up and set in into the opening, and there are fixed brackets for it to sit on.

And if you are wondering about the cabinet behind the FW - that is a machine I picked up yesterday. This one had been at the local antique shop for a while, and I've wanted smaller White made machine, plus I really like this cabinet.

Next weekend we are heading into the Twin Cities for another "clean up" day at the farm. Don't really like doing all of this traveling, some is for fun, but a lot is dealing with the estate and that kind of stuff. And it looks like we'll be heading to Florida in Sept or October, as DH's Mom is now in Hospice, and no one knows how much longer she has.

Congrats on a great trip Cathy! I love the model 29 and it's stand. The mangle is neat. I see one for sale every now and then, but no room for one. I had a similar White, mine was the 77MG. Yours looks pretty close, but not quite the same, I liked the way mine sewed. I never even thought about the featherweight stand. Great find! I have seen reproductions but not the real thing till now. The lift is pretty cool and the stand looks like it's in great shape.
