I have a good housekepper model 205 and am wondering where and what kind of bobbin holder I should get. Im at a loss and have exhausted all logical internet searches. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank, Ericah

your picture does not show the "important" part. It's class 15, easy enough, but it is left or right hook.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps91d77859.jpg though just about all except Singer is this way http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps6f7da8af.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps34efc0ca.jpg So you need to look at that little notch at the top Oh wait, your machine missing that part, you need a bit more than just the bobbin case. You need these pieces to make this machine work. Though these are Singer, but you get the idea. Yours has the swing clips to hold the retainer in place, so you'll need to look for that style retainer, Singer had a different type (it's the lower middle piece with the screw) http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps9c28927d.jpg your best bet will be to check out goodwill and thrift for a machine with the bobbin assembly similar to yours that has the parts - and swap them out. It does not have to have the same name on the front, and may even look very different on the top side, but that won't matter as long as these parts fit. |

I had one very similar, the badge says Dressmaker. Macybaby showed you the right bobbin case. It is common, get the parts she shows. A local sewing shop may have parts machine they can get them from. I have a .pdf copy of the manual I can email to you. PM me with your email address and I will get it to you. I am just heading out of town so it could be a couple of days.

Here is a bit more info on those Japanese machines:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...s-t207877.html There may be a generic manual link on there, too. It is more likely to be a right bobbin holder than a left. You will need to get the larger needle slot since it is a zig zager. I would check with sew-classic for a bobbin case - I think you are looking at less than $10. She also has attachments. (you will need to determine if you have short shank or long shank) Then she has decent bobbins. |

oh you need the bobbin case holder, too.

Cathy, as usual I nearly always learn something from your posts. I did not know or even think to check for a left or right hook on the class 15 bobbin case. Thanks so much for this information. It will go into my sewing machine info file.

Usually it would be Singer with a left hand bobbin case but Singer also uses the right and on the same models.

Welcome aboard! Looks like Cathy has you covered. Unfortunately it's more than just the bobbin case that's gone. That makes the search a little more difficult, but not impossible.

The whole hook assembly moves back and forth with the needle so the needle only enters one spot in the bobbin case. Cari |
I took more pictures. I have one end loading machine like yours - and three other front loaders. I have another White end loader that is older, and it's the same retainer as the Singer 15 above.
These four all have the rotating side clips and retainer ring http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps5ff05408.jpg This is the End Loader (SBF) http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps4808d604.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps9227d76e.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps4948e3b6.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psbc636cac.jpg the Dressmaker had the same shuttle as the end loaded (SBF) and the Morse and White each had one a bit different. However the differences were minimal, the were stamped JG2 (for the two similar) and JG1 for the Morse and JG4 for the White. The retainers were all the same on the flat side - but with this difference between the front loading (left) and end loading (right). I think either would work for the end loader, but only the wider slot one would work for the front loader. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psf0971d9b.jpg |
I have some of those laying around.

Cathy your last pic exactly points out my previous post.

Ok, thank you everybody! I recently got a cheap brother to get me by. I really want to fix the housekeeper for some reason. How would I know whether to get left or right replacement parts without the original retainer? Also it is Taiwanese made, not Japanese, not sure if that matters. Thanks,

Wht Miriam said, I think it's safe to assume it's right. Singer are mostly left, but they did make some that are right for some years, but I forget what period of time it was.
BTW - these are also called 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock - indicating where the finger points to if it were on a clock. All of the non-singers I've encountered so far have been 1 o'clock fingers. |
If you go back and look at the first two pictures - black is Singer and Pink is "other" both show the position of the shuttle with the needle at highest point. If you look closely, you can see the that outer part the shuttle fits into is opposite on them. So put your needle all the way up and see which one it matches.

There are lots of Singers that use the 11 o'clock - usually those thread left to right. The 1 o'clock's thread right to left. Quite confusing if you are going back and forth between two machines.
