Is this a good price?
I know nothing about old machines but see that some of you have gotten machines for some pretty fabulous prices.
Is this a fair price for this machine and cabinet? http://eastidaho.craigslist.org/atq/3758156623.html |
Personally I think it's way over priced...but I don't know the market in your area either. I'm guessing it's a model 99? Can you get any more info from the seller? The cabinet to me appears a little on the rough side. Certainly usable but not pristine which I would expect for that price. In this neighborhood, you can find a cabinet and machine in that condition in the $50-$75 range if you're only mildly patient.

I agree with NJ Quilter, way too much. And it appears that the bobbin cover is missing and I would guess the wiring would be iffy at best.
|
I like the foot control, but it seems pretty high priced. More than what I would be willing to pay.
|
Got my 99 in a nice cabinet for $60.00. And my machine looks like it's never been used. I'd keep looking.
|
It is way over priced, it doesn't have a bobbin, bobbin cover.
|
Thanks for the input. There are 2 others on CL but are $250 and $350.
|
LOL it is a fair price if you are the seller. If you are the buyer - well, not so much...
|
The foot control is the real money on this machine ask about the cover for the bobbin and say well you know it is missing and that interferes with the working of the machine and are there any attachments and do some dickering. The others are right about getting down I would say in the neighborhood of $50.00 - $100.00 dollars. good luck! and let us know what you do.

Its over priced for its condition. The decals are missing all along the front edge of the bed, the center bed decal is gone. The slide plate is missing, although that might be in one of the drawers of the cabinet. Often people don't know how to put them back on again. The wiring probably isn't in good condition either.

location does make a difference, what i may find for $20 may be $200 somewhere else, but that machine looks pretty rough, and i would be patient & keep looking- I spent 3 years stopping at yard sales, thrift stores, looking- sometimes finding one i really 'thought about'-considered and would still walk away- then one day i walked into a garage sale & there was the most beautiful little 99-K, in beautiful condition- the owner had taken really good care of it, all was there, all was working, and when they said (would $20 be too much?) i about fell over! best $20 i've ever spent and certainly worth the 3 years of 'browsing' :)

Once upon a time, I lived in Idaho Falls for five years. Because the area is so secuded, prices tend to be higher than in my very highly populated area. Yes, I think it's way too high and I would certainly make a deal with them first.
|
It's way overpriced. The decals are lousy, the wiring probably needs to be replaced, and a slide plate is missing. Does it have a bobbin case? In this area (New England), if I bought that machine and cabinet, I'd expect to pay maybe $25, $35 tops.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I don't "need" it, so will spend as much time as necessary looking.
Wannabee you hit the nail on the head. It is lower population and for some reason everyone seems to think what they have is top of line. |
