Goodwill Hunting - Happy Happy Happy Dance
10 Attachment(s)
I hadn't posted this yet, but finally had to share with those who would understand my excitement. Last May while par oozing (yes, that comes up in spell check that way) our local Goodwill, I happened upon a familiar little black case. Price $39.99...Tuesday Senior Discount price $29.95. Darling Lily - a 1951 Featherweight came home with me that day, with all her accessories. In early November, I called on a local Craig's List posting and Old Millie (original owner was named Mildred). Asking price $150. Accepted $60 as it was the machine only. Millie is of 1948 vintage and has joined her sister, Darling Lily.
Last week, a quick stop into our second local Goodwill resulted in my 3rd SUPER find of the decade! A featherweight table! Whoa! It was a little warped with the plywood separating along the edges of the insert and around it on the table, but a little steam from the iron, some clamps and wood glue...and she's nearly as good as new. Goodwill price $9.99 and a can of spray paint (which I already had). I painted her metal frame and legs almost the original color. Before and after pics are posted. I am truly doing the Happy Dance...rock n' roll style!! |
My wife says: ....... And just where is she at? I said I don't know, some where in AZ.
We both agreed you got some really sweet deals .......... and ........... WE are in the wrong state! Joe |
You are so fortunate! I loved your photographs! I know you will enjoy using those machines. Wish I had a table for my Featherweight.
NICE!! :) Congrats!
So jealous, lucky you to get such great deals!!!!
As Joe says....I'm in the wrong state, too!! Nothing on CL here either. On march 3rd one of our local private schools (very elite) is having a garage sale. they have even put the announcement on a couple of digital billboards so I'm "guessing" it's going to be HUGE!!! I'm going to try to go and maybe run into something I just can't live without!! LOL
Great find!! Nothing like that in CA darn it!!!!

you are one lucky lady!
Congratulations on your great finds!
How lucky you are. Have fun with them.

That's some amazing prices. You did a good job on refurbishing the table. I got one off Ebay for about $75 and it needed refurbishing. The veener (sp?) wasn't raised like yours but someone had duct taped the insert in the table! I just needed to do a good cleaning and then refinishing on the top and paint the wood sides black for mine to look good. I did have to go get some screws also for the part of the insert area where the machine rests. If you're willing to put in a little time and work you can save a distressed one.

You have the Midas Touch.
Keep at it - you may find a new house. J J |

You have the magic touch. I have a friend who lives in TX that is the same way. She finds the best things and always super cheap. But I am pretty sure she has Never found 3 featherweights and a table for those prices. |
I'm going to check out our local Goodwill again. Usually go there to drop off items and leave without buying again thing but you never know what will turn up on their shelves or tables.
Your patience has paid off for you! And you certainly gave us inspiration on fixing the table.

Wow! Three pretty ladies and now a table too!
You are one lucky lady. Not fair...I only have one FW and no table. I'll have to watch for one on CL and local thrift shops.
I think I'm the only one that owns the table without the featherweight. I bought the table for 40 off cragslist years ago not really understanding what machine it was for but still love it. it's small with a drawer and fake drawer and the top opens to both sides to create a long table and the machine fits in the middle. Solid wood as far as I tell. One day i'll come upon a machine I'm sure to put in it!

What great finds. Our Goodwill never has good buys. Guess that's the cost of living in the sticks.
Lucky you!!!I dont get that luck here and I keep trying. Will keep hoping I get your lucky streak.
You do have the Midas touch. Those are all great deals and you cleaned them up nicely. I have better luck at garage sales but even those are hit and miss. Enjoy your treasures!
I think I coould move to Arizona for a little while!
Why doesn't this kind of stuff happen to me?
Just to ease the pain a bit...it usually is pretty hit and miss here in Arizona, too...and we're in a relatively small town. My BFF says to go often, as inventory changes every day, but be prepared, as most of the time it's a bust...and you walk out empty handed. I just happen to stop by Saturday of President's Day weekend the day the table was put on the sales floor. I don't think it had been there long. Just the right place at the right time that day. Don't give up...your turn to wear the tiara is coming!
