Look what I just got off CL! It's a model 15-91 1947 (per seller)

Lostn51 05-04-2010 02:42 PM

Submit the serial number and I can tell you exactly when and how many were allotted. But it is a very nice machine indeed!!!!

I do almost all of my quilting on a model 15 treadle!!

Oklahoma Suzie 05-04-2010 02:48 PM

beautiful

Suzanne57 05-04-2010 02:52 PM

I won't get the machine until Saturday as it's about an hour and half to two hours drive and right now I'd be hitting rush hour and that's not pretty. So this weekend I'll post the serial number and more pics. It's electric not a treadle. The seller said it works, just needs cleaning and oiling. She even reduced the price to $35

Lostn51 05-04-2010 02:55 PM

$35 is a good price I do not care who you are!!!!

Billy

lfw045 05-04-2010 03:32 PM

Much better than the nasty one they had at the Antique store for $300....and one that was falling apart...$250 and another for $275 named King.....never heard of that kind before......it was really kind of square looking but really old.....I walked out.

Congratulations!!! :D:D:D

You are going to love this machine. It sews so smooth. So easy to maintain and parts if needed are reasonable and easy to find. Here is a pic of my niece sewing on The Lady this last summer. It's fantastic for paper piecing! You can set the stitch length to very tiny.

I don't know how you can wait to get her  You are more patient then I am

penski 05-04-2010 09:33 PM

Congrats on your new machine. Love the older Singers.

Great Machine. I purchased a 15-91 a few months back which was from the original owner's estate. She kept it pristine shape. I so love it. It has a great reputation also. Enjoy, enjoy!

You haven't been in Dallas-Fort Worth rush hour traffic. I avoid going anywhere in it unless I absolutely have no other choice. The waiting is killing me but the traffic is still worse.

CarrieAnne 05-05-2010 03:38 PM

Great price!

emmy 05-05-2010 06:41 PM

You will love it. I have one (electric) in a cabinet with the knee bar which I really like. It has a perfect straight stitch.

Suzanne57 05-08-2010 06:03 PM

Got it today. The serial number is AH 141978 and I need a bobbin case and the plate that goes over the feed dogs.

Congratulations!!! Your baby was allotted on July 10 1947 with only 35,000 of them for that run. Since its a Model 15 the bobbin case and needle plate should be found at any sewing repair place or the Singer dealer. You might even find them at you local Hancocks or JoAnns.

That's good because I've been looking at Ultimate Sew and Vac and they want 13.95 for the bobbin case, 12.95 for the needle plate and a couple of dollars for screws (it looks like you get one screw for that price) or is that about the right price?

The case is about right but the needle plate sould be less than what they are asking for. Go hit Singers website and see what they want for the parts.

Look at these guys and see if this fits the bill better.

For the price of the bobbin case you can get it all for that.

Billy

Suzanne57 05-09-2010 07:51 AM

Thanks! I bookmarked it so when I discover ALL the parts I need, I can get them all at once so only have to pay one shipping charge. I'm getting a list started and am awaiting the tutorials. I've never tore apart a sewing machine before.

Lostn51 05-09-2010 09:49 AM

It is a piece of cake really, I will start working on the first tute today when things slow down a bit for me.

Hope this works.

(edit) it didn't. What I was trying to do is show the large screws that I can't get loosened and wanted to know if it is absolutely necessary that the potted motor be removed. I've sprayed and sprayed it and it still won't loosen. I'm afraid of totally stripping the screw.

GOT IT! See what screws I mean?

You might need to shock them in other words stand the machine on its end get the proper sized screw driver make sure the machine is supported and held. Put the screw driver in the screw slot and strike the end with a hammer a couple of times. this will shock the screw into coming out.

Be careful am not break the motor or machine.

BellaBoo that is a great picture of your niece, very Rockwellian.

The machine is beautiful, and a great price.
