picked up two more machines.paid $40.
a 1951 singer model 127 and a westinghouse type f. dont know the year.it's a nlb508560

The New Home NLB takes obsolete needles, CC1221. And the handwheel turns backwards to sew. I was lucky to find one with a couple of needles. There are ways to modify regular needles but I have not done it.

I think it's neat that the needle shape is a decal on the bed! There is a guide on how to grind a 15 x 1. They eye has to be at the right height -- the overall length is not as important:

I wonder if you can use a too-short needle (like a 24 x 1) and experiment with not sliding it all the way up into the needle bar.

The New Homes are great machines. Be careful of the sewing bed, they can crack easily if they hit abruptly. I think the machine is aluminum so they are quite delicate. Other than that very nice.
