Hand crank arm to handwheel ration

SteveH and I got to discussing gear ratios for hand cranks. This German Kohler machine spins the balance wheel 2.1 times per revolution of the hand wheel.

Davis spins 3:1

Singer and reproduction singers spin 3:1

If one puts a steering wheel knob on a balance wheel (like I have), it is direct drive 1:1

Does anyone have others to check?

if you can see the attached Kohler shot please ignore. I was trying to delete it.

Very fascinating info, leonf! Thanks!

My machines will be glad to see that they are not the only ones with animal hair! LOL

I will check my collection of handcranks and report back any that are not a 3:1 ratio

Yea, critter hair is often in/around the machines.
