Have a Babylock BL1050 Heavy Duty Companion????
 

My DH brought a sewing machine home from a yard sale, I don't need it. Does anyone know anything about this machine? The exterior is in perfect shape, no bobbin in it. How old do you think it is?

I know nothing of this particular machine, but can tell you that Babylocks sew beautifully!

That looks like a nice machine!

I'm no expert, but I'm going to guess that machine is from the late 80's, possibly early 90's.

I would see if Babylock has a manual you can order, or if there's something on their website; they list their products (Babylock.com).

You may also be able to get assistance from a local sewing shop that is an authorized Babylock retailer or repairer. The only problem with Babylock is that they are not sold in big box stores, and retailers cannot be within a certain distance of each other, and can be hard to find, but the website will help you out. If all else fails, and nobody here can help, you can try contacting a Babylock retailer online and see if they can walk you through threading, and assist with questions.

The machine isn't exactly "vintage", but should you use it, I'm sure you'll love it! If I hadn't stepped into vintage machines, I would've bought myself a nice Babylock....I think they are fabulous!

one of my many machines is a babylock and like rachel said "they are wonderful machines". contact a local dealer and see if they can help. that sure is a nice looking machine. good luck.

You're trying to hard, it's very simple. Threads just like a zillion other machines.

OK here is how to thread this and 16 zillion other similar machines:

To thread this machine, first raise the presser foot, then take the thread from the thread spool (1) to the rear thread guide (2), through the rear guide to the front thread guide (3). Through the front guide and down and under the top tension (4) from the right to the left. Make sure the thread is fully seated between the tension disks.
From the top tension the thread goes up and passes through the guide (5) then up to the thread take up lever, through the eye on the lever from right to left. Then down through the guides (5 and 7). Then down to the needle bar and through any guides on it. Then through the needle. How you thread the needle depends on how the needle mounts in the bar. Most likely it will be front to rear.
