Heads up! Found a Singer 201-3 for sale if anyone is looking for one
I bought a 201-3 last month and love it! The 201-3 is made in the UK and has the light mounted on the back of the machine instead of the front... less apt to burn yourself on the light bulb that way. It's on ebay and the price is faaaabulous. The motor has already been changed to a 110volt for the USA. Click on the photo "Image C" and you'll see the motor is a 110volt, made for the USA.
I am NAYY, it's such a faaaabulous machine I had to pass this along. |
Love it! Notice how large the throat opening is - can you FMQ with something like this? So much bigger space than all the newer plastic things.

Yes, there is a thumbscrew underneath to drop the feeddogs. Very easy!
The 201 is known as the quilter's dream machine. I love mine! It's the quietest of all the Singer sewing machines and the stitches are beautiful. The motor on the 201-3 is not the typical potted motor found on 201s made in the USA. It has a belt driven motor, and the light is mounted on the back of the machine instead of the front. The bobbin is a drop in from the top, and the hook spins twice for every stitch. Because the hook is designed this way, it makes for a very quiet sewing machine. |
I bought mine on ebay last month. It didn't have a case with it, but I had a 66-16 in a table that I didn't need. So I took the 66-16 out of the table, gave it to a friend and put the 201 in the table. It's beautiful! I've been sewing Civil War Journals piecing on it this week.

That one is nice. While looking at that one I found this. I really like the cabinet. Too bad I don't live near there.

Sorry to take your thread off topic... |
It's the name of a BOM quilt. Here's a link to another thread about this quilt. There are some photos there as well.

Ahh,. thank you! I knew I was missing something. Lovely quilt ideas you have. I still have yet to graduate out of the "pin cushion" sized project I started a couple of weeks ago on the Winselmann.
