Hello and Help! From Texas
We found a Lenco Model 414 in my mom's attic. I couldn't find anything like it online. Please check out the album with photos and let me know if you are familiar with this machine. I'd like to know the value, but am thinking of keeping it. Neither mom nor I have quilted, but Granny did, and I think I'd like to try. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Apparently, I don't know how to post my pictures so all can see yet. I made an album and put them there. I'll try to post them here.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. I am not familiar with that machine but it sure is pretty. Someone from the Antique and Vintage machine section on QB might be able to help.

I don't know anything about old machines excepts my mom's 1940s Singer treadle which I learned to sew on. However, I would like to welcome you to the board from the beautiful mountains of western NC.

Welcome from western NY and happy quilting :)
|
That's a great find, it's a nice legacy to keep grandma's sewing machine working and used by family. It can be a lot of fun and a little work learning. You came to the right place for help. I'm in beginner stage of learning so can't help, but can encourage to keep the machine and learn to sew, it is very rewarding.

Nice looking machine. For me that would be a keeper! Welcome from Maryland!
|
It looks like a machine to keep and sew on. Best to you in finding info etc. on it!
|
That is one nice machine.
|
I would keep this machine. It looks so pretty. And probably all metal.
|
Welcome to the Board from one Texan to another. Quilting is an addiction, so have fun!
|
can't help, but welcome to the board
|
Welcome from Houston! Sadly, your fellow Texan can't help you at all with the machine, but it's very nice to have something that belonged to another quilter in your family.
|
Welcome from Tennessee--and if you are anywhere near Austin or Kyle, PM me, and I'll be glad to visit with you in person. That is a beautiful machine, and I'm thinking you can really learn to sew on it, and enjoy it. (Oh yes, I plan to fly down to Texas in September, and that's when I was considering a visit with you.)

hey! from philly, got here from dallas. welcome to the board! looks sort of like a necchi to me, but i'm no expert! try JMiller, he seems pretty up on things. and there are others over there too. good luck! fine looking machine, and i'd be all goosebumpy knowing my gramma or great gramma had touched the same machine as me. can't buy that!
|
Welcome! Your machine looks quite like some of the old Montgomery Wards machines made in Japan- right down to the color. Google for pics and maybe a free manual online?
|
Thanks for the welcome, M. Elizabeth. My Granny used to have a machine with a foot treadle, too. But it was loaned to a great-granddaughter who "lost" it. Strange things happen, I guess. Never met anyone from NC before. How's the weather there?
|
Hi Barny. Yes, it is all metal. And a pretty color. Yes, I'll probably keep it and try to learn how to use it. Thanks for looking and taking the time to comment. :)

Hi Gerbie,
Thanks for the welcome. I recall Grandmother hand-sewing quilts, but not using a machine. Knotting the strings…wish I had asked more about it when she was still with us. Brenda |
How sweet, oldtnquiltinglady! I'm still pretty far from Austin, however. Near DFW, but in the sticks. Maybe you could steer me in a beginning kind of direction. I'd like to learn to use it, certainly! I know they aren't all alike, but maybe this is near enough you could advise me?
Thanks for responding to my post, JoAnn. Brenda |
Hello Monroe. Thanks for responding. I have Googled, but not for an owner's manual yet. I wonder why not! Lol. Good idea and one I will be acting on shortly!

This owners manual should match your machine: http://ascrapoflife.blogspot.com/201...er-sewing.html
read and click on the green print - that manual will work for your machine. |
You need to clean and oil it carefully. Does it have a manual? If so, there will be directions. We like Tri-Flow oil from Sew-Classic.com., and their grease too. See how she sews and there may be small tension adjustments. It is a pretty machine and I would be proud to own it. Those machines need lubrication periodically and should preform well. I recommend starting with squares and then when you're comfortable with that, then half-square triangles. Hundreds of possibilities with those. You will develop skills. See you have a quilting guide, the long wire-looking thing. Get a good seam guide for 1/4 inch seams and you're quilt making. Good luck. We're always glad to help you.

Brenda, Welcome to the Board. That machine is real pretty. If it belonged to your mother or grandmother, you sure don't want to sell it! Quilting is fun!
