Help! Blew out light bulb.
After cleaning and cleaning, and getting this Kenmore unfrozen, I blew out the light bulb. I replaced the bulb and plugged in machine and ka-bow! Now, no power to anything. I'm not electrial inclined, so now I'm stuck. Did I lose the motor? Not my machine, just cleaning for a friend. (Or used to be friend.LOL) Hoping for some help. Thanks, Bobbie

Have you removed the blown bulb, unplugged and tried again? Possibly the incorrect size bulb?
|
When you say no power to anything, is that the outlet? what happens if you plug in a lamp? might it be a fuse? If the outlet is good, I would remove the bulb and try running without it and see if it works. It could be when you tightened the bulb, the wire behind the bulb may be frayed and the wires touched...
This is why Dr. needs to see you and won't troubleshoot you over a forum ;) |
Yes, I tried those things. So, I called the repair guy and he said sounds like the switch is bad. You have to switch on the light to make the machine work. And he said the same thing about the wire being frayed. Have reported all this to friend and now they have to decide whether or not to continue on. Repair guy said would need to replace switch and maybe light socket. Thanks for your help.

The cheap $10 fix would be to undo the wire to the light, go to IKEA and get a nice lamp.

Thanks Miriam, I'll pass that along to the friend!

I replaced a bulb on my mother in laws machine, with an incorrect bulb, 12 v instead of 110 and blew up her machine. Was told by two repair shops, just a paperweight so had the second shop dispose of it! Lesson learned, go the extra mile or two to get an appliance bulb for one's machine!

The friend is going to dispose of the machine or take it for switch replacement. Thanks everyone for your interest.
