Help identify please!
 

I just got back the machine my mother bought for me in the mid 50's. She never sewed, but wanted me to do good in Home Ec. I know it was a sacrafice for her, she made payments.

I used it during high school and some when my daughters were young making thier clothes. Then it sat idle. When she was 70 she started quilting, became obsessed (like the rest of us) and made over 200 quilts until she had to give it up because of carpel tunnel syndrome. She's offered it back to me many times, but I didnt have room.

I lost my mother last week at age 90. I miss her terribly, but she had a long life with a loving family. No way could I let someone else have that machine. My brother brought it to me yesterday.

Best I can find online it's similar to a Singer 15. It had Hoover decals, Singer attachments, a Janome M-109 motor and is a Delux Precision Built made in Japan. Stamped on the front lower frame is H757522. I've searched without success to see if that is a serial number. Can anyone help? I have downloaded the Singer 15 manual and its close, but I dont have the emb/darn/norm dial on the top.
It's in a wood cabinet with drawers and has fold out top on both sides.

It still sticthes like a new machine.

What an awesome machine and story.

I think the stamped # on the frame is H151522 instead of 757522, gotta go check that out. Just oiled and cleaned it up and run a test stitch....PERFECT stitching....I'm doin a "happy dance". And thanking my momma for hanging onto it all those years.

I bet it's a 15-91 Singer, sure looks like that one, printed a new manual.

The manual for the Singer 15 should work for most or all functions of your Hoover. It's a clone of that model probably from Japan and probably sold under more than one name.

Some of the Japanese clones are actually smoother and quieter than the Singers they copied.

How lovely to have this machine back and a little bit of your mother close. And mercy, I just noticed that it's only been a week since she passed - you must be a lost soul right about now. I'm so sorry for your loss - I will light a candle at mass, tonight and keep you in my prayers.

I think it's probably a Japanese made 15 clone. So sorry about your mom! Mine has been gone for almost 10 years, but I still think of her every day and miss her immensely. Enjoy her machine. I know you will think of her every time you use it.

As MimiBug123 said it's a Japanese 15 clone. A close copy of the Singer 15-90, not the 15-91. They were imported by the gazillions after WW II and most are of excellent quality.

There are generic manuals available on line from several sources, but your Singer manual will cover the basics.
They are low shank machines so any presser foot, or attachment suitable for a LS straight stitch machine will work on them.

My mom had a HOTHER, a 15 clone, for eons. I have that machine. Like yours, it still sews beautiful stitches.
