I have this Singer Machine from my grandmother. I think it is from 1918 due to some googling. Any thoughts about it? It is serial number G5985715.

It's a Singer 66 Redeye. Not sure about any other info. I have the same machine and cabinet but mine is from around 1923.
btw it looks like yours is in excellent condition. Mine is dirty and not really faded but I need to replace a couple of parts. My cabinet is half refinished. The previous owners stained it a super dark brown, almost black, color. It was free though so I didn't complain. lol |

this Singer website shows it is a 1918 machine, model 66, made in their New Jersey factory. |

I looked it up with your help and it looks like it is a 1910 model 66. I dont even know if it works or not. Anyone know if it is worth anything?

They made a lot of that model and they are fairly common but since yours is in such good condition, it might be worth something. Billy might know...

The decals are in fantastic shape. Lucky you!!

What a gorgeous machine - and so special that it's your grandmother's. :-)

Hi Lynn: Another member here just purchased a twin of this machine...looks pretty much the same and also in nice condition. She paid $125.
Check out her posting: Search for "Sew-so" |
pretty machine!

What a beauty! Lucky, lucky you to have your grandmother's sewing machine!
|
She looks just like the one I did NOT get from my grandmother-in-law! I used it during every summer visit to make dresses for her, a then-blind former expert seamstress, and though she promised that machine to me, on Grandmary's death her daughter went in the next day and stripped the house and got rid of all that "junk." I'm still crying over that deed, 20 years later! If you want to sell this one, I'll buy her...even though she would have to be shipped across the country. :?

That's a model 66, Red Eye, and it is a beauty!!!! My first vintage machine was a red eye. I wanted one from the very first time I saw one---I think they are so pretty.
The decals on the front look in perfect condition and the decals on the back just look as if they need cleaning. The safest way to clean the decals is to use some sewing machine oil. Just spread it on with your fingers or a soft rag, let it sit for a little while and then gently wipe it off with cotton balls or a soft rag. I just bought a 66 and all of the decals had turned to silver because someone had cleaned it with a harsh cleaner. Here is a cute You Tube video by "Treadle Lady" showing a model 66 Red eye in action: http://www.youtube.com/user/TreadleL.../5/Fi8a_OHUv1M |
Since it was your grandmother's it has more worth to you than someone else. There is not alot of money to be made in vintage sewing machines. It's a love/passion thing.

Oh she's a beauty!
