Could I please have help identifying this singer?

I think I know what it is.

Some one on the board will let you know but that someone isn't me. Looks pretty good condition! Maybe if you can find the model number or a serial number then google it.

Serial number is helpful -you can look it up on ISMACS and it will tell you what model machine the number was allocated to.

However, it looks like a 201 without the potted motor and the front light. I have found pictures of the same looking machine, and they say it's a 201K - so maybe the European model was a bit different the the US model.

I think it's a 201 also. The plate under the spool pin is one of the give aways. I think it's called the "spool pin boss". Also the relatively straight line of the inside of the pillar.

Rather, the casting in the machine is called the boss. the plate is just a spool pin plate, I think.

The serial number is EE650513- lists it as. 201K

macybaby when say a 201 without a potted motor is that a bad thing? Should all 201's have a potted motor.

I need to read more about them. :)
thank you!

Is it a 201-3?

Sheluma 09-27-2013 04:25 PM

Did you buy it? The potted motor has a gear instead of a belt. The downside is that they are more difficult to replace because no one makes them anymore.

Yes, it is a 201-3.

The 201-3 is still a good machine, but the 201-2, with the potted motor, is just too cool.

Macybaby 09-27-2013 04:31 PM

Nothing wrong with an external motor instead of the potted motor. It's just like the 15-90 and 15-91, same basic machine except the motor drive - one is external belt, the other is potted with gears. It is just an option but I couldn't remember what the last part of the number was to designate external motor.

it's the lack of a front light that was confusing . . .
