Help...will a 401 machine fit in a 201 cabinet?
 

After being a lurker for a very long time I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. I found a cabinet on craigslist that I hope will fit a 401 machine. It originally held a 201. Are the measurements the same on these two machines? The woman I want to get this for is very special. She sews on her Mother's 401G and is in her 70's. She has made and donated over 1400 quilts since 2004 to military families. She showed me another 401 that someone had donated to her for parts. She cleaned it up and it runs great. She wants to put the machine in the downstairs area so that it is near her fabric and is able to sew where it is cool during the summer. I was hoping to find a cabinet to surprise her so any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to the forum.

The 401 "should" fit in the 201's cabinet. I have a 201 in a cabinet and a 401 in a case bottom.
The hinges on both machines look to be the same width so that should fit together with out a problem.

You'll have to remove the case bottom from the 401, and make sure the foot controller cord adapter if used is removed so it doesn't get damaged by the cabinet.

You'll have to remove the spring loaded metal plate at the right side of the 201 base in the cabinet as the 401 is longer than the 201.

As far as I can see with out actually doing the switch that should just about be it.

Thanks so much for the replies. I picked the table up and surprised her. Her daughter will come over and remove the plate for her. Charlee, I'll let you know when she gets it removed.

Definitely! Here's mine in a cabinet for a 201... or a Singer "40" cabinet.

I took my 401a out of it's cabinet and put my 201 in its place. It fits just fine.

Wow, your cabinet looks like new! Is it a new one or is it refinished? I have some in that style but don't look as nice as yours.

I have both a 201 and a series 400 the 403 same dimensions. Both of mine are in Singer cabinets. Measure the perimiter of the base of each one, lenght and width, then compare with opening in cabinet. Singer has more than one dimension size opening in its cabinet.
