Hengstenberg
7 Attachment(s)
Advertised on CL for $20 - pic of case only. It was the husband's grandmother's. When she died, he took it for his wife to sew on. Didn't have a key and couldn't open it, so it sat in the basement for years. Had no idea what was in it. My hubby took the key from our grandfather clock and it opened. Look at what was inside. It was an OMG moment. It's a 1899 Hengstenberg - J. Silberg Mother of Pearl inlays, Hand Crank w/wood top cover - #550907. Manufactured in Bielefeld, Germany. Even got an oil can.

Very nice. Lucky you. Ace Hardware may have a key that will work for your machine. There is a picture with dimensions at post #18 of http://www.victoriansweatshop.com/po...1306?trail=100 Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.

You must be living right! That's an awesome piece of history!

That is utterly beautiful. I am so glad you opened the cabinet and didn't give it away sight unseen. I hope it sews. It would be so neat to have a project next to it that you made on this gorgeous machine.
