How can you tell difference between a 227 and a 66?

I went to the Singer site and looked up my model numbers. One K405712 and it was listed as a class 27. The other a Singer Red Eye G6792274 was listed as a class 15. When I printed No. 15 Instructruction Manual it was for an oscillating shuttle. But when I printed the manual for a #66 it looks exactly like my #G6792274. Sorry to be so dense but I need help I have another S/n K405712 so I printed the instruction manual for a 127-3 & 128-3 with vibrating shuttle. It's still at the repair shop and I can't remember what kind of bobbin it has.

The serial numbers on the Singer site do contain some errors. Usually, though, it's a matter of the first or last digit of the s/n being filled in, obscured, rubbed almost invisible or made unclear. The letter O is confused for the numeral 0 and vice-versa.

Try looking at your s/n plaques with a hard raking light from the side - that will often disclose a missing digit at the beginning or end, or clarify that a C is actually a G or an O or something like that.

I don't think the Red Eye decals were put on anything but 66's.

Look at the pictures of the 127/128 in the manual and try to remember if yours has the sliding plates front and back that meet at a round plate under the presser foot. If yours has both of those plates and the round plate, you most likely have the right manual for that machine.

A round bobbin machine (15, 66, 99, 201) would have only one slide plate either to the left or to the front of the needle plate, which is usually D-shaped. Hope that helps! :)

I agree I think red eye decals are only on 66's. Thank for the other info. poly parrot very interesting and useful!

I have the same type of situation. I bought a red eye, it has the plate that slides from the left hand side out from the needle and has a round bobbin. Yet when the serial number G868547 is fed into the Singer site it comes back as a model 27 with an oscillating shuttle which mine does not have. I ran off the 66 manual and it agrees with my machine.
