How to clean up old hazy yellow flaking clear coat
Hi Gang, desperately trying to figure out how to get the thick nasty yellow flaking in some parts sticking in others clear coat off a featherweight. It looks brutal. I've tried dish soap and water with a little success, and Mequirars scratch X and turtle wax. Some parts have shined up nice, but I'm thinking its because I removed the clear coat from that area and its just the paint poking through.
The clear coat looks like it's thick layers of grime over the years, but it doesn't come off in some areas. Has anyone else dealt with a situation like this? Maybe the last owner was a heavy smoker? |
I'd start with Glenn's tutorial on fixing the old shellac:

Yes read everything Glenn has posted on the shellac then practice on something you don't care if it ends up a parts machine - but you might be pleasantly surprised.

Glenn's tutorial like Joe and Miriam said.
