How common (or rare) is the crinkle finish?

I just back from vacation and picked up a couple of machines while I was on the road. I got a model 66 and 99 both in the mat black crinkle finish. Started doing a little research on the web and ran across a few sites that indicated that they were rare, but then ran across a few posts that indicated they were not that rare. Which is right?

The 66 and 99 aren't rare, they're seen all the time. The 221 crinkle, now that one is rare.

I wouldn't call them rare either, but I don't see a lot of them, but then again that could be where I am looking. I know some people don't care for the crinkle finish, but I think if it sews well and looks good that is what counts. I would take a 221 with the crinkle finish anytime.

The crinkle finish shows up pretty regularly for the 66 and 99, probably a little less for the 99.

I watch Shop Goodwill regularly and see the crinkle machines all the time. 27s, 28s, 127s, 128s, 99s, and 66s are what I see the most.

I've seen one pic of one crinkle FW, and to my memory haven't seen a crinkle 15 at all.

Lots of Whites, Kenmores, Domestics, Franklins and some others usually made by white in the 40s and 50s too.

Some of the crinkle machines were re-furbished and crinkle was part of the refurbish.

If you happen to mix and match.... I really like the look of my little 128 "godzilla" with all of the missing "black side" pieces replaced with pretty floral scrolled chrome.......I think it is "rare" as in never made that way.... But I like it

And I agree it depends on the model I think.....most of the late (40's and 50's ) 128's I have owned were crinkle.....I only have one 128 that is not.....And it is much earlier...
