Thank you @OurWorkbench ! I did use a screw driver as a pry bar and got it to tilt back. There was a bunch of thread caught in the bobbin race. It is all cleaned out now. The inside looks a lot like my old Kenmore. It's interesting that the zigzag works by moving the bobbin case back and forth. I was just able to get the bobbin thread to come up. I don't think it is threaded on the top correctly. But I am well on my way to getting this thing working again.
Thanks again for all the help! This board is awesome! |
YOur up down button is for the feed dogs if you want to darn or free motion.
Glad you got it. |

Yes, it is interesting to watch the machines of this era to zigzag. If you were able to pick up the bobbin thread, you probably have it at least really close to having it threaded correctly. As Leon mentioned you have push buttons for raising and lowering the feed dogs. Something that I have done - was forget to set the pressure on the presser foot. It looks like yours has the kind that if you press the outer ring and the bar pops up. Then you would press down on the bar until you have the right pressure. I tried to find a manual that would be close to yours, but was unsuccessful. By any chance did you see a J-A or J-C number on the bottom somewhere? Update: I'ts alive! I think it needs a new belt or possibly motor. But it sews if I manually move the hand wheel. I consider this a win! Thanks for all the helpful advice and encouragement!
