How and Where......??

ok my husband just bought me a sewing machine while at a Car Show! He was very excited........this is what he got me.....I got the serial number off it AE014814, and if I looked it up right it was born on Dec 5th, 1935 and it is a Model #15. He paid $115 for it and does not know if he got a good deal or not.......it is in a table with only a knee bar to make it work, there is no foot petal.....is that normal? I don't know much about this machine any help with info is very appreciated......it also has just 1 bobbin and nothing else. Is there a place to get a manual and extra bobbin and any other acc. that I may need......thank you

You'll be able to go to the Singer website and download a manual for free as soon as you know which model 15 you have. :)
My guess is that it's a 15-91, and mine is in a cabinet with a kneebar, BUT! all the kneebar does is push on the foot feed for you. The foot feed is inside the cabinet in a clamp.
Class 15 bobbins are what you want for your new girl, and short shank attachments. Sew Classic should have the bobbins, and the attachments, but I'd look at the thrift/antique stores for the attachments and get originals. (They're usually cheaper too! :) )

Congrats! You sound very excited, do you have pics yet?

I will take pictures soon.....but every time I have tried to upload photos on here it never works but will try it again. Thank you for your help with this I have to go take a good look at my new girl.......ty

ok so I just went out to check her out again and there is a different serial number on the cabinet.....A072301 that is stamped into the wood. And my Kneebar has a cord that goes into a box on the side of the cabinet and it is what powers the needle up and down. I am going to try to do the photos next

Congratulations!!!

I learned to sew, on a machine with just a knee bar. I think it was a Kenmore but not sure, as that was what seems like ages ago. :)

The serial on the cabinet in the wood shouldn't have much to do with the machine... I'll send you a PM, if you can send me photos, I'll post them for you. :)

aawwwww thank you so much for posting my photos.....now to find out what #15 it is......

Marsha, You do indeed have a 15-91. Go to this page:
http://www.singerco.com/accessories/...manuals/search

and you are able to download a PDF file for free of the manual for this machine. :)

I've never seen one wired like yours. Interesting! It looks tho, like you could if desired, unplug the motor control from the machine and plug in a regular foot feed/power cord if you wanted. (You can get it from Sew Classic) I, personally, wouldn't. I like the kneebar myself, and you have a nice cabinet to leave the machine in....

Tell your spousal unit that he did good!! :)

Look at the shine on that girl! I don't know anything about vintage machines, but she looks good!
