how to zig and zag on a lovely vintage?
 

i have an AMAZING singer 301A circa 1951. she's an amazing little machine and i just can't believe all the things i can do with her... the kicker is that i can't zigzag.

what i'm hoping to make would not be conducive to hand stitching.

is there something, anything that i can do with this lovely machine that would bring me close to a zigzag?

of course - Singer sold this nifty zigzag/decorative stitch attachment - just make sure to get one for the 301 slant and not the short shank. They are on eBay quite often.

Then you can go broke buying all for of the extra cam sets that go with it. LOL!!

It's like the one in the middle - the box will say "301" on it. It comes with four cams, and then there are four more sets of four cams (Red, yellow, blue and white) so you can have a total of 16 different decorative zigzag stitches.

BTW - it will also say "Slant needle" on the arm of the unit.

If you buy on eBay, make sure you get the right one. The instruction booklet covers both - and many sellers get confused by this and think they've got one that fits both machines. Same thing happens with the buttonholers too - since one set of instructions covers both the short and the slant shank models.

No- I don't own one of every attachment Singer ever sold - but I'm working on it LOL!!

I'm really hooked on all the fancy attachments you can get to use on a basic straight stitch machine. I've got a nice black long bed 301 with a card table to go with it.

My ultimate sewing machine is a black Singer, I care not which one, and a zig-zag, blind stitch and button hole attachment. It will do everything I need, and better than the new ones. IMHO!

Might throw in a penguin walking foot if I can find and afford one��.
