Congrats on another treasure, Steve. I know you will do miracles with her, as you always do.... so anxious to see the results.

Really cool machine, how old is it, or do you have any idea?

The serial number of this one is after the records were compromised in 1877, but I would guess that it is 1878-1880 ish....

Thank you. I am trying something a bit different with this one. I am not using ANY power tools of any kind. No wire wheel, no dremel, nada...

I AM going to be picking up some gun wadding polish though....

Here is the shuttle and bobbin cleaned up. (first pass anyway)
NOTE: the two tiny little holes in the arm for threading.
I did not know that there were holes in the bobbin brass ends until it was cleaned....

The closest pic that is a photo I can find is on page 110 of the Carter Bays book. Have you seen it yet? You can see where the candle holder would be but still has the decorations. And mop.

I do not have one of those... sigh

Ahhh... I have seen that AMAZING Howe machine photo before. I believe that is a picture of a Howe Model A (specifically the early version with the stitch length adjustment below the bed)

Thank you for posting such large scans though. that is in my collection of Image data now.
