Husqvarna Viking Model 21

Anyone here have one? I lusted after one a few years ago, but kept getting outbid on ebay. I ended up with a Kenmore instead....the Kenmore is okay, nothing wrong with the machine, but I never bonded with it like my other ones. I regret not being able to get the Viking 21. The hunt is officially back on.

Oh my. A girl with a vintage sewing machine lust in her heart. I will also keep my eye out for a Viking 21 for you.

Ha! I see you are in Washington state. If you live near Seattle I am officially jealous, cause they usually have tons of cool machines on Craigslist in that area.

Yes, I have found a few good buys on Craigslist. And also Shopgoodwill.com. I just bid and won a vintage Brother Wizard in a real pretty blue color. Since it was a pickup in Tacoma the total I paid for her was $9.83. I don't know if there is anything that comes with her except the delightful duct tape wrapped case bottom she sets in. I am going to pick her up tomorrow.

I remember your post and was so apprehensive that someone local was going to outbid me. I have really wanted a pretty blue one for a long while. It will be interesting to see her real condition when I pick her up today. I have decided that her name will be Bonnie Blue.

This is too funny! I actually know exactly what machine you are talking about.

Yes, I was so hoping that someone else local to me was'nt going to start bidding against me. I just posted pics today so you see her up close.

I have just what you are looking for.
My wife received a Husqvarna Viking Model 21 from her grandmothers estate and it is in good condition and ever has an owners manual with it. She is interested in parting with the Viking 21.
Interested?

Adam, I would love to see some pictures. I am interested, depending on price. : )

One of these just sold on ebay for $355.00! It was in great condition, and the seller vouched for the performance of the machine, which is not common on ebay. And, to be fair, a 21 with a crack sold a few days ago for 127.00.

But I still can't get over the price that this machine ended up at!

I know this is an old thread, but maybe you still monitor it...I bought one yesterday at Savers (thrift store) for $29. I'm really excited to find out more about it!

I've cleaned it up, oiled it and it runs like a champ! I thought I messed it up and got it stuck in reverse, but then I realized that you can push the button all the way in, but you have to push and lift to disengage it. Nice zig-zaggy stitches and combinations that I really haven't completely investigated, but they all work just fine. Husq/Viking was kind enough to send me a PDF file of the manual.

Viking 21 questions

Hello! I just lucked into a viking Husqvarna 21 - it seems to be in pretty good shape, except the fly wheel is super stiff and I'm having to crank the tension all the way up to a 9 (out of 10) to get a good stitch. I'm guessing that the bobbin winding mechanism has to be tinkered with a bit and I am going to have a look at the tension dial to see if it needs some kind of adjustment (not that I've ever done such a thing before!). Curious what people's experience quilting on these machines is? I have a Janome 7330 Magnolia and a Featherweight, neither are that great at quilting - especially now as I'm working on my first larger quilt (68x68). I'm excited about my new machine - and looking forward to exploring this community.
Caroline
