I was gifted a Singer

My boss lost his mom 10 or so yrs ago and his dad passed last year. They've been emptying the home and he brought me a Singer 128 in a bentwood case. He didn't have the key, so I waited patiently to see inside. It was really hard not to pry that puppy open! Well this morning I got the key and opened it.......It's a crinkle, centennial badged, blackside. I am so happy with the condition as well. It has all the accessories in the original cardboard box and the shuttle, bobbins, etc are all there. It's electric and the plug doesn't look good, but that's an easy fix. The case handle is missing as is the logo. It's also beat a bit but what's inside is a treasure!

Sorry no way of uploading pics. Maybe some day I can share my collection with you in images....lol. He said he thought she would want me to have this as I do collect the vintage machines and use them all. He also asked me to look at some tops he found that need quilting. Can't wait to see those.

Anyway, I just had to share!

Congratulations- I consider the crinkle-centennial-blackside to be a trifecta of sorts. Not very common. I'm not partial to the crinkle, but it looks very nice with the black components.

128

I have the twin to your machine. Just got the bobbins for it from Sew-Classic.Com. They are the spindle type. Didn't have any trouble winding them. Muv would have approved. I refinished the bentwood case and it wasn't hard. I used stripper, let it dry and used mahogany stain. Then comes the best part. Home Depot has brush-on lacquer. It smoothes out and looks like spray-on without all the mess. If a second coat is needed, please wait at least 24 hours so the coat doesn't "slip". I steel wooled between coats and added a new Singer case decal obtained on the internet under "Singer Decals". Two down and three to go. Have fun.

128 key

You could use a slim screwdriver. I have opend them that way for antique dealers that didn't have a key. Carry one in my purse just in case.
