If that was the serial number it sounds like a 27. Very nice!

We love pictures around here, do you have one to share?

Congratulations! Is it a treadle, or electric? Either way, Singer offers a manual for it: http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/268_27_28.pdf

And yes, photos are always appreciated around here. :)

I love to see pictures, too. I have had a couple of those setting on the shelves with the derelict machines. I finally got one out and used it. WOW they are really neat once you figure them out. Muv has some real good info on her website and her videos. Check her info out and do try the machine out. It is a lot of fun to use those old long bobbins. I think I kind of discounted ever using them because they looked too complicated. Reality - they are easy to use and easy to maintain. You might be surprised how much you like it. Mine has a real heavy hand wheel - it will sew through anything. Of course you have to keep winding bobbins. That's what DGKs are for?

Thank you all. I will try and post a pic. Maybe will get my son over to help me. I haven't had a chance to play with it yet even clean it up. We are moving so time is short. I think I am to old to move any more. ha

I have an old Singer Sphinx from 1923/24. I am trying to restore it, the original owner had it in a leather shop and the whole shop must have smoked cigarettes because it is literally caked in nicotine. The decals are ruined and I am trying to find replacements, anyone have any ideas?

If you follow the cleaning tutorials on QB, (carefully) you might find the decals are in better shape than you thought. Some times removing the grime, brings em back, pretty good!

Welcome aboard, check Ebay for decals, there are a few sellers who reproduce at least some of the patterns. I'm not sure if the Sphinx is one of them.

Most of what you think is nicotine is not, it is the shellac clear coat that has turned brown and years of sewing machine oil that has dried. Use clean sewing machine oil and soft rag to clean the decals.
