I Guess I Am a Vintage Machine Collector!
Was sitting and thinking (I know this can be dangerous), and it occurred to me that I am actually a vintage machine collector!
So far: Featherweight Centennial 1938 Featherweight Singer treadle (six drawer cabinet) ? "Red Eye" Singer 223 Kenmore ??? (haven't dragged it out from the closet in a long, long, long time) White "Jeans 30/30" (don't know if this machine counts as vintage) I better not show this list to DH...LOL So, do I qualify as a vintage machine collector? :) |
Absolutely! But the passion tends to grow...!
|
Uh oh! LOL May have to get bigger house (not smaller like we are retiring to!). ;)

To enter a "collection" at the LaGrange Fair you need FIVE of what ever it is. There were 5 antique aprons, 5 elephant figurines, 5 scarecrows, etc. But to be a crazy cat lady you need 23.

Collector - sure. Hoarder - not yet! Keep going!

Often the almighty dollar determines if we are a collector. My neighbor friend has 12, 4 treadles, 3 FWs, a couple White rotarys, a 401, 201 and a computerized that sits in her kitchen in the pantry (?).
|
I also love vintage machines. I have four; a featherweight, a Singer 401A and two treadles-one a Red Eye. I really enjoy having them even if family members wonder about my state of mind. I do have two computerized machines for general duty and I do enjoy using them.

You are just getting started. After three years of acquiring I'm going to try to use each of my singer 301 to piece a quilt. 2 out of 7 down.
|
Yes, you are a collector! It's hard not to love those old, high quality machines.
I have a Singer 66 lotus treadle from 1918 (my oldest), two Singer 201s, a 301, a 403, a Singer 15, three featherweights (kept in different locations), and my darling Bernina Record 830. My newer machines are a Juki 2010Q, and a couple of sergers. |
I think you qualify. I got started with a Singer 201 about 5 years ago and my collection has grown to about 100. Thank goodness for my son's big storage room in his house. Most of mine are dated in the 30's -60's, however I do have an 1887, I believe that is the date, Singer Coffin Top and an original Singer Hand Crank from England. I think it is time for me to stop. I should probably find some good homes for some of them but I just can't seem to part with them when I think about doing that.
