I was just given this "Bartlett Rotary" Treadle

10 Attachment(s)
and the minute is came in the house, my Youngest (19) claimed it... She spent the next hour gently cleaning it down with oil....

The previous owner is a business man who is moving and had no room for this. It used to belong to his grandmother...

I could use ANY information about this machine/company.
I know they are "Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Company" of Chicago, and that it was the company that started the True Value Brand (Sold it in 1962)

I would say that machine is a branded product of the National Company. It sure has pretty decals and in nice shape.

I have no info for you but: my, it is beautiful!

I don't really want anymore machines but I'd certainly make room some where for a beautiful cabinet like that if I ever came across one!! Both things look great.

MrsBoats 01-19-2013 05:04 AM

I agree; it's a National. I have several with that distinctive swing plate over the bobbin, and that general body shape. They all have different names, although one doesn't have much of a name-it's just a 'Rotary A'.

Those are beautiful decals! I don't blame your daughter one bit for adopting it. :)

i'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has a kid that claims one (or more) of my machines as soon as they walk through the door. My 14 yr old daughter has claimed my Singer 185, one of my White treadles, my white FW and my baby blue Ambassador clone...and she also has my vintage Bernina in her room.

Caroline S 01-19-2013 07:39 AM

I would have claimed her also. Everything is beautiful about that sewing machine.

I so not have any info on machine, sorry. It is sure a beauty!!!!!

According to the Encyclopedia of Early American Sewing Machines, the "Bartlett Rotary" was manufactured by the National Sewing Machine Company.
