I named him!

My first male machine! I named him "Tank"! So darn heavy, he came by the name honestly! Does anyone name their machines after a male or are they are girl names?

I have:
big mama
Annabelle
Esther & OPal
Matilda
Sylvie
Sweet Pea
and my latest "Tank" a male!

Up North 11-22-2011 06:45 PM

I call my Brother Machine "Oh Brother"!!

BETTY62 11-22-2011 06:49 PM

I'll bet the girls were happy to see Tank his being a heavyweight and all.

Oh, the girls won't get to see him. He can't make it upstairs where the girls are, maybe that is for the best!

My Mother says I am nuts but there is :
Eloise, the Elna Pro Quilter
Charlie, the School model Singer
Janome, of course a Janome
Sassy Singer, 404 Slantomatic
Plain Jane, ancient Kenmore
Indee, 31-15 Singer Industrial Machine
Grandma, my first Singer Futura rightfully named for it was bought with inheritance from Grandma
BAbyBoy, the Baby Lock Serger
and there are a few more which are not named and have not came up with a name for the newest Singer, not sure the model..

Now that is truly an act of Love. Mr Ed is one lucky machine. It is fun to hear about some male sewing machines and they story.

I call mine 301A, 1630, 55, MO634DV, but that may be an R2D2, C3PO thing....really liked Star Wars and (sigh) Hans Solo.

lovelyl 11-23-2011 05:39 AM

I named my 328 Frank, short for Frankenstein, because that is what he looks like next to my FW's and 201! To date, Frank is my only male machine.

Caroline S 11-23-2011 06:06 AM

I have two machines that are are definely males. They are George the my 1950 Singer 66-18 Godzilla and Carl my 1939 117.551 Kenmore De Luxe Rotary.

jeanine6335 11-23-2011 06:09 AM

My Featherweight is "Sera" short for Serendipity-as she was a very very fortunate machine found a very unexpected time.

Annaquilts 11-23-2011 06:13 AM

Scotty lives at my house. He is a Singer 15 handcranck made in Scottland.

jljack 11-23-2011 09:23 AM

I was going to name my Davis VF after Steven Tyler because it is such a tomboy, but my DH didn't like that idea!! LOL

jamsbuying 11-23-2011 12:54 PM

No, I don't name them, I call them by number - 930, 630, etc.

Mousie 11-23-2011 01:08 PM

no boys here yet, but I do have a heavyweight machine that isn't named. It was my grandmothers.
Seems only fitting, since he is one heeeavy guy and a real workhorse, that he get his male moniker.
Doesn't sound like a tough name, but I think I'll call him Gus, after the mouse in Cinderella.
I just hope he doesn't get amorous with my girlies  ...lol :D

Up North 11-23-2011 02:48 PM

Yes, it probably is for the best. You maybe wouldn't want toy sewing machines popping up. hehehe

I named my Pfaff, Jean Luc, after the balded guy on Star Trek. The Bernina is Bernie, not too original huh? My car is named the Enterprise (Star Trek). Our microwave oven is called Hanford, after the plant down near Tri-Cities, where the Manhatten Project's stuff was made. My zip ripper is called Jack.

PolkaBabe 11-24-2011 02:05 PM

Haven't named my sewing machines, but I have given names to my cars.

deedum 11-24-2011 02:13 PM

Love it, All these guy machines, Eric, Tank, Gurs, Frank and Red and many others. Yea, it is fun to read about all these male machines!

Bob--just plain ole Bob is my little Bernina 240. My gd named him when she was 9 yrs old and claimed it for her own when little brother is old enough to stay out of her room. lol I have had my 820 for over a year and it does not have a name.
