I think I have a problem
 

DH and I are in Switzerland, for business, his. Last weekend we visited a resale shop and found a lovely hand-crank Naumann, for 35 chf. The price is okay, but figuring out how to get it back to California is the problem. As it is, we've been here about 10 days, I am completely without sewing equipment, and I'm going into withdrawl. Now I'm wondering about how much it would cost, and how difficult it would be to pack it for shipping.

Sigh, I knew I should've brought my featherweight. Next time (if there is a next time) I won't let DH talk me out of it.

I would buy that it in a heart beat--look how pretty it is, and those decals? You'd be the owner of a machine that's rarely seen in the states. Doooo eeeeet!!

Measure the dimensions. It will probably go as a carry on on the airplane. Just stuff your other things in the cargo.

It's beautiful! I'm sure you'll find a way. The packing method shown above looks great. Check with the local postal service, and other antique shops- I'm sure they have shipped things to the US before.

How about shipping your husband and using his seat for the machine? I am just kidding. It is beautiful. You can't leave that there.

I'd buy it, pack it carefully for shipping, then take it on the plane as luggage. Domestic flights have size limits, but this would be under them. I'm not sure about international flights.

Yep....CARRY ON!!! I surely would NOT leave that behind....check your luggage and carry this in your arms!

Don't leave it behind cuz if you do you'll regret it. Don't coulda, shoulda, woulda.....buy that baby and take it as carry on. You'll be glad you did!

I wish I had your dilemma! :) Very NICE machine!! Buy it, pack it well, and ship it home. If you pack it, pack it in two boxes; otherwise, carry it on.

Lovely machine. Make sure it has the right bobbins and shuttle with it. Singer long bobbins don't necessarily fit some of the old German machines. I'd love to get my sticky little mitts on a Naumann. 35 Swiss francs, that's just less than £24. I'd get it. Just don't carry it by the handle on the cover - ever!
