Identify year of machine
I have an old singer treadle that I got at an auction and I called singer and they told me a year, but they seemed vague about it. I see where some of you all have it listed by an actual date and year. How do I find that information....do I just call them back and hope for someone more helpful?
Also it needs some cleaning and work....where is the best place to start. Thanks DeMaris |

Thanks that was very helpful. If I am reading the serial number right....mine is July 1904, it is pretty dirty and hard to read. Once I get that cleaned up more I will be able to tell better. It is pretty but needs a large amount of work. So I will tackle it one day at a time and post pictures as I go.
Thanks DeMaris

ISMACS gives the date the serial numbers were allocated, not the date the machine was made. At best you can assume your machine was made between that date and the date of the next allocation, though it's unlikely they ran out of numbers to put on machines before they allocated more. I'm sick of seeing people take the date of allocation of 50,000 or more machines as the date their particular one was made. I think that is why Singer only gives year, as they don't have records more accurate than that. The best part with the ISMACS site is you can use it to help determine your machine model - though it only work sif you look up the right number. I came across someone on Ebay that looked up the serial number on their electric motor and thought they had a machine from the late 1800's. It was really one from the mid 1920's

The serial number is hard to read...I can't tell if there is a letter before the B or not. It will need a lot of work and it is pretty rough but here is a picture of her before I start cleaning her.

I think it is a Model 27 - 1904, but once I get the serial number cleaned better, I will be able to see it better...instead of just guess.
