I'm confused...a Singer 115 with tension dial in Singer 66 position?
 

I apologize if this has been discussed before...I tried searching but didn't find this particular question...I downloaded a Singer 115 manual from 1915 and one from much later based on style of manual. The newer manual has no date, but says 115 in numerous places in the manual. It has the Stitch length adjuster like the 15-91's and 201's. But the tension dial looks like a Singer 66's with no numbers and in the position of 66. I've never seen any form of a 15 or 115 that didn't have the tension dial on the nose plate. Please educate me. :)
Btw. I was amused to see the error in the older manual that tells you to remove the bobbin with your left hand but clearly pictures a right hand removing it, lol!

I do not think the 115 was ever made that way(with the stitch length adjuster like the 15-91 has) - and without a date - it's likely a "generic" manual and the printer got it wrong. It would be neat if the last made 115's were like the first made 15-91's -that would be a real rarity!

What does it show for the bobbin area, since that is about the only good way to tell the 15 and 115 apart.

Singer stopped producing the 115 in the mid 30's, right about the same time they came out with the 15-91 and 201. Singer manuals all have dates and this era would have been the smaller green ones. If you have something else, it's not an original manual.

hmm- looking at ISMACS list, it looks like the last time numbers were allocated for the 115 was in 1924, so that was long before Singer came out with the round stitch length lever like the 15-91 has.

That's for a new machine. It has the Chinese/Indian decals and feed drop and the tension dial is on the front.
All the evidence tells me the manual is not for a western made machine. It looks like a modified version of a genuine Singer manual from the 1950s but I couldn't find a date on it.

Mike, I kinda thought that too, but I will say that "feed drop" is not what is says in the manual. It shows it as the bobbin spool pin. I thought the manual looked 50's-60ish?

Well if you're going to copy a machine's design and the decals, you might as well just copy 95% of the manual too.
It's probably the 227 manual with a couple of pictures swapped.

I've seen several later manuals with "interesting" things like that.

It's one reason I don't like using the Singer site to download manuals. They usually only have the most recent manual that was printed for a machine - and Singer made so many changes to some of the models over the years, if you get a manual for a newer machine, there will be differences.

I looked on Ismacs and found this link: http://www.sil.si.edu/DigitalCollect.../NMAHTEX/2683/ You can not look under Singer 15 you have to scroll to 115 to find it. I'm thinking the Singer 15 manual will work for most things though.
