Then I'm a weirdo too.
|
It's not our fault if people can't recognize the best sewing machines ever made... and be glad they don't want them. More for us!
There are plenty of us "weirdos" hanging out in the Vintage Sewing Machine Shop on this board: http://www.quiltingboard.com/virtual...jsp?vsnum=1013 |
Weird is all relative. After all what is normal?
|
It's a big club. ;)
I think it's weird that some people are obsessive about collecting butterflies and framing them under glass. Collecting old sewing machines and bringing them back to life is harmless and fun and preserves some of the best of "American Made" so that future generations will understand a little bit about what that phrase means. :) |
Has anyone ever watched the show American Pickers? I'm amazed at some of the old rusty stuff they find and consider to be a real treasure. We all have different interests. Remember that old saying, "One man's junk is another man's treasure." Just because your interests are different than someone else doesn't make you a wierdo.
|
don't get accused of being WEIRD, but I'm always being told I have to many sewing machines (30-40). I like weird!
|
I think there is a whole bunch of us weirdos on this board!
We are preserving old machines for prosterity! |
In reading this thread, I started counting how many machines I have. I came up with 8, including one from my grandmother. So, guess I belong in this group, lol.
|
Not weird at all.
|
I guess I am the weirdest one of them all!! All I ever use are treadle powered machines and I would never use anything else. And my collection is fixing to hit the triple digits.
I say keep on keeping on!!! Billy<<< King of the Weirdos |
I have 6 up north, and 3 down south. I don't feel that's too many.
My husband has way more "whacker sticks" (golf clubs) Hee, Hee. Seems fair to me. It's all relative. |
Your not weird! I love old machines.
|
ditto !!! I even have my dh looking at older machines AND not
only looking but buying! He got a Featherweight with case for $160 that works beautifully. Then we found a Pricilla for $8.00. I've got to take her to my machine man to see if she will work if not she can be on display. Think I'll keep him and the machines!!! |
I guess I'm weird also!! I do the same, currently working on two treadles, 2 featherweights, and 1957 Singer.
|
This got me thinking. Counted up and was amazed to discover that I have 8. Thats not including my newer Viking that I started with. It must be catching!!
|
I'm trying to join the weirdo club :)
|
You are not alone and you are not weird! I have four treadles that I use to make my quilts, other vintage machines as my backup machines, and others that look pretty sitting on the bookcase. They have brought coziness and added warmth to an otherwise boring room. I love my vintage ladies and gents!
Enjoy! |
I don't know how anyone could be exposed to these vintage, beautiful, reliable machines. You're not weird, you just have an eye for classic quality!
|
OK, I admit it!! (raising hand!!) I'm WEIRD!!
LOL This is a funny thread!!! |

Count me in on this one. Over the last 3 weeks, I have "found" bought and rescued (well actually purchased at garage sales) 3 vintage machines (two 66's and one 201) and one from an Aunt that needed some loving care. I have been fixing them up (rewire, clean, oil, lube) and then they purr like kittens. Friends have been buying them - not making any money off of it but am putting the lost "children" back into sewing for people who only wanted a machine that went forward and reverse.
|
You're not weird. You're my idol.
|
Well, Dear Weirdos, I count you all as my friends, because if I didn't have weird friends, I wouldn't have friends at all. My collection is near 40. A combo of treadles, vintage electric in cabinets, and about half vintage portables. All used for teaching kids how to sew. (correction - 3 treadles waiting for cleaning and new belts, one electric clone which needs to have pinched wires replaced. Will get them functioning before summer ends.)
(Are there sanity pills for spouses who don't quite understand?) |
nope just talented - you go show them how its done!
|
thank u !! thank u very much..... ah huh huh!

Believe me you are not weird!!! You should see all the golf clubs & golf balls we have around our house, just because my husband plays golf. |
That's just what people who don't know say about us. I have a machine, that uses cams to make different stitches. Just finished cleaning and oiling. When the user manual arives by mail, it will go on line as the machine I use for my next project. Welcome to the group.
|
Hey do we need a secret hand shake now that we know we have a club? lol.
|
Sign me up! I have lost count but hope to get a Singer 127 back together this weekend. But have some sewing to get done that takes priority.
Weirdette |
Sign me up! I just purchased a 60 year old Singer 15-99 portable Century edition. It sews a nice stitch. I intend to make a quilt on it. I also got a 95 year old 66-1 singer treadle that I am restoring. The mechanics are pretty good, but the case needed refinishing. I am ready to finish the polyurethane tomorrow. It is a beauty of a red head and I intend to make a quilt on it also. They remind me of the machines my grandmother and mother used when I was a bit younger.
