Incredible FW price on EBay

I was watching this one when the price hit 800 .. Cant believe it sold for $1125!!!! Yes, its a very nice machine, and kudos to the seller for the nicely packaged deal and professional presentation (lots of sellers can learn a LOT from the way she constructed her ad) ... But $1125!!!!! WOW!

I watched this one too.
It was professionally done, but still . . .

Monroe 02-03-2013 08:27 PM

Gorgeous, but crazy price.

deedum 02-03-2013 08:31 PM

Yes, I just lost a bid on a FW. I bid $375 and still lost. That is even beyond my top dollar! I will find one at a price I want to pay, may take me sometime, but I will find one! I can't imagine paying that kind of price.

This seller has sold many featherweights on Ebay and they always go for a very high price. She is a professional and the machines she sells are not only displayed professionally but she uses them and is very knowledgable about featherweights. She makes sure every machine she sells is in "like new condition". That goes along way for her getting those prices.

I checked it out on Ebay and it sure was a very pretty FW. BUT, $1125 !! Ouch. I thought it might be the 222 free arm. I paid $250 (with shipping) on Ebay for mine a few years ago. It's in very nice shape. I also got a white FW off of CL for $85. Now, that was a steal.

It's called MARKETING folks. I like her idea about putting a sleeve on the spool pin to keep the plastic spools from rattling.

That was my point ... I've noticed a lot of ad's that show the machines on a bench with a lot of background clutter, lousy pictures, incomplete pictures (one being listed now doesn't have a single pic of the machine with the left side folded down), very little info on the machine - or incorrect information. Ditto for other products as well ... my husband watches cars, motorcycles and watches. This seller does an excellent job of marketing her machines and other sellers can learn a lot from it. Yes ... her machines do appear to be outstanding, but so are others that are not marketed as well.

Don't we all wish that advertised machines showed a video of the machine running and stitching (I've seen some shown running .. but not stitching)?

But still ... $1125??? That's a killer.

Whoa Nellie---I have better things to spend my money on. Like a years worth of groceries for me and this includes my Milky Way Dark Chocolate bars

pinkcastle 02-04-2013 04:41 PM

Beautiful machine, but I can't fathom paying that much. I'd be afraid to use it for fear of mucking it up!

Patty55 02-04-2013 06:03 PM

That seller has serious skills!

DanofNJ 02-04-2013 06:55 PM

I'm in the wrong business...

I have two nice featherweights and love to sew on a FW, but not at that price. Groceries and bills come first, perhaps new owner has lots of "playdough". I bought my first on Ebay for almost $200.00, and thought that was high. I bought the second one from a young lady here in town that was selling it on our daily radio Hotline- (her grandmother's machine) for $100.00, because she was tired of hauling it around in her moves-'silly girl', but oh well, I have a nice little second one - one is a 1935 and the other a 1937. Love them both, would never pay that high dollar price for one, that age. I paid a little more than that though for my Bernina 930 in 1985 NEW,but I still have it and just love it, and use both FW & Bernina for all of my sewing and quilting. I've made quilts on both. I loved her presentation and videos. You said it Marketing is the name of the game and she is a professional at her marketability.

gramquilter2 02-05-2013 08:02 AM

That is a beautiful machine. The seller did a great job getting her to shine better than brand new.

TexasGurl 02-05-2013 08:21 AM

WOW ... that is a ridiculous price ! 37 bids, someone wanted it REALLY bad ...

Hope they're very happy with it, they will never resell it for even close to that $$$$

Lori S 02-05-2013 08:38 AM

That is impressive marketing and Alot of people wanting a near perfect Featherweight. My wallet would have been out at $350.00 for such a good looking/running machine... even at $350.00 I would have been having heart palpitations.

SteveH 02-05-2013 02:20 PM

The worst part about this whole FW business is that most of these idiots who are buying them for those prices (or ANY price above a couple hundred) are usually buying them for their "investment" value. They will never be sewn with, never be appreciated, just greedily watched for market "upswings".

We collectors are the guilty parties.....
This one sold for $200, but that one has the rare blue screw so it's worth $300 and so on.....

These machines are cool, but SO not worth that much more than any solid 3/4 sized portable.

I know a person who has 12+ FW's and only sews on the thrashed out worst of the bunch to "protect her investments" goofy goofy goofy.

So, in an effort to help drive down prices, may I offer the following "Collectors Against Price Stupidity" (CAPS) pledge....

"I solemnly swear that I will NEVER pay more than $250 for a 221 or $500 for a 222"

Muv 02-05-2013 02:58 PM

Can't understand the obsession with Featherweights.

I had to have a Featherweight to replace the one that my mother had and I learned to sew on. My sister made off with the old one (likely hocked it ) . I then had the opportunity to buy five Featherweights as a lot for $1150. Which I did because one of the machines was a white 221 K7. I gifted one machine to my daughter and one to my grandson's wife. The last Featherweight I purchased was also part of a lot of sewing machines and I paid $190.00 for it. If the price is right I will buy another one but NEVER more than $250. I think I already have taken Steve's pledge, LOL

mighty 02-05-2013 04:31 PM

Beautiful, but ouch on the price!!!!

Divokittysmom 02-05-2013 04:43 PM

Jaw dropped to the floor when I saw the price!!! I completely agree that they are not going to gain much more value so use them instead of waiting for the $$$$ to escalate!! Shaking my head in disbelief!!

No problem here. I dont travel with a machine, which is the biggest selling point (to me) about a featherweight. I'll not say no if a nice one landed on my door for less than $200, but I would rather concentrate on full size machines.

DanofNJ 02-05-2013 07:17 PM

I got mine for $25.00 so i guess I'm ahead of the curve...

SteveH 02-06-2013 08:14 AM

yeah, this board is definitely made up of folks who are "ahead of the curve"

Glenn 02-07-2013 09:51 AM

I agree with Muv. I have a FW and do sew on it every now and then but really, I really I dont think they are that great of a machine. Yes the machine is easy to take to class camping etc but I take my White peerless or the 28 HC. I have even taken my Jones CS. They are easy to use and give no trouble and the campers like to watch me use it.

She sure does a good job. Not only are all of the attachments there but she shows how to use them. I learned a few things too
