info on Morse machine
I am wondering about a Morse that says made in Taiwan on it.
I recall reading they were Japan made..... Does this mean it is not as good a machine as the ones made in Japan? mish k |
Many Japanese manufacturers outsourced their manufacturing to Taiwan and still do. Then as now, a brand name doesn't necessarily imply any country of origin.
As for quality, I've found Taiwanese machines spotty: some are good, some aren't. My Janome 6500P was made there and is excellent. I have a Dressmaker from Taiwan and it's a piece of crap, whereas I've read that similar Japanese Dressmaker models (same exterior design) are good. Quality control, I suppose. |
Sewing machine production started being moved to Taiwan in the 1970s. It doesn't necessarily mean it's not as good as the Japanese made ones, but it doesn't mean it is as good either. Plastic parts were being used more and more by then, but not in every machine. It may be a good machine, the only way to know is to try it out.
