very interesting! Love the handpainting on the ones shown...someday we will get one that needs refinishing and I can practice my artistic skills on it. (I am a fine artist by profession)

Thanks for posting that Charlee, I have it book marked.

Thanks Charlee. That was a very interesting article. I would love to see his sewing machine collection. And, I would bring a bucket and a lot of hand towels because I think I would be drooling like Pavlov's dogs.

Thanks Charlee for that article. His machines are magnificent. Incredible works of art besides being functional. I think that's what draws me to them. Charlee, you are an inspiration yourself, always full of important information & so willing to share. I thank you for myself & for all the members of this board who learn from your knowledge.

Three cheers to what callen says!!!

Btw- that was a fun article. Even sent it dh who at this moment is in the man cave working on resuscitating a very gunked up, neglected, scarred, but free machine. ( He's using it as a learning tool. Past, I think HE has the bug :-)

Best,
d

Thank you for posting. Wow who knew all this. I alos ventured over to the site about toy sewing machines,
interesting stuff.

star619 02-14-2012 07:03 AM

Fascinating!

BarbaraSue 02-14-2012 11:53 AM

that was a neat article. he sounds like an interesting character. would love to have him give a guided tour of his machines where I could ask questions along the way. I'll be sure to wear my bib to catch the drool! lol

SUZAG 02-14-2012 01:24 PM

Yes, that is an interesting article! "Singer came out with a surgical sewing machine used in the field to stitch wounds" gave me chills...ick! It must not have done too well because surgeons still do their "hand stitching" today...LOL

Teacup 02-14-2012 07:43 PM

Thanks for sharing that! Great article. It's wonderful to find someone so knowledgeable about the history of the sewing machine. My DH collects antique telephones (we have over 50 in our family room and many times that in his basement workshop). He's a treasure trove of telephone trivia. He loves watching old movies to identify the phones. I'm trying to listen to the dialogue of the movie while he's drooling over the 1933 Westinghouse candlestick phone!

MaryAnnMc 02-15-2012 05:20 AM

That was interesting. I sent it to my son, who bought his first machine yesterday.... a Singer Slant-o-Matic. I'm hoping he catches the repair bug!

cheri stonespinner 02-20-2012 07:27 AM

Wow that was so cool! I had no idea there was so many different types of sewing machines. It's amaizing how far theyv'e evolved! Thanks for posting this.

Quilt Mom 02-20-2012 08:20 AM

Saw the article in a treadle on post, also. What a great article! I enjoy reading about the history of our machines. (It also acts as an enabler, so watch out! I picked up a beautiful little Singer 128 VS after reading this!)
