Introducing Sassy Sally!

Howdy y'all :c)
I've been hankerin' for a treadle machine for quite some time now. I even bought one a few months ago and was very disappointed to find that it couldn't be fixed. So this morning I went onto Craigslist and did a search for "Sewing Machine" and saw Sally! A church in a neighboring town had been clearing out a bunch of stuff that was stored in a couple of rooms there, and found her in a back corner of one of the rooms. I arranged to go out there after I got off work, and it was love at first sight! My birthday is Wednesday, and she is my present to me! Here is what I saw when I got to the church! :c) Does anyone know anything about this machine? I'd sure love to know more about her! :c) Donna |
Can't help, just wanted to say, sally is lovely!
Wow it looks new!
I know Sherian! I'm scared to death someone is gonna tell me she's a reproduction rather than an original, but I'd still love her anyway! LOL!

She is a pretty machine. None of mine look that good and those decals are very nice! If you give us the serial number we can find out what it is. My 115 has the tension on the faceplate like that.
Sally is beautiful! The cabinet is very nice, too.
Nope but maybe PM Charlee - she should be able to help :)
I have nothing useful to contribute, I just wanted to say she's a beauty....looks too elegant to be a repro, but who knows....I'll leave that to the experts here. Do have a very happy birthday:)
Do you have her serial number? That will tell you if she an original 27. She does look to be in excellent condition.
There doesn't seem to be serial number in front of the pillar. You need to check with Charlee or Billie, who isn't posting right now, but I think there should be if she's original. Look at the pics of the 'new' machine named Judy in another post. Either way, she's gorgeous and will sew a pretty seam. |
Even if she doesn't work, she's gorgeous to look at! The cabinet is beautiful, too.
I'm so glad you're going to love her anyway....she's a repro...a quite lovely repro tho, and there's absolutely no reason not to love her and use her! :)
Congrats on getting your treadle, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! :) |
Thanks for letting me know Charlee! I've been admiring her pics already this morning. I had to leave her at the church last night because I have an open-bed truck and it was pouring down rain. The rain will continue all day today, but hopefully I can get her home tomorrow. I miss her already! LOL!

With the tension on the faceplate, she's a 15 model with sphinx decals. You can find out more by joining "treadleon". She is just very pretty!

Wow, what a beautiful machine!
Wow, what a beautiful machine. She looks like new. What a wonderful find. Have fun with her.

Your new machine is a reproduction. The ID # can be found underneath. Great machine to use for FM, easier to drop the feed dogs on this machine (the knob on right), and the bobbin winders are of better quality on these models than the older. Enjoy!
Here is a video of a gal using a similar machine, Singer 15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tcy2dse68M |
Congratulations on getting a treadle. Repro or not, you'll have lots of fun with her!!
Wowser!! What a gorgeous machine! Congrats on your wonderful find! :)
She is beautiful and I love her name!
She is beautiful even though she is a reproduction. The knob on the bed of the machine was my clue, along with the colors in the decals as Charlee said. Happy sewing with Sally!

she ios a Singer sphinx and she looks like she has hardly been used. Wow. wonderful birthday present to you. have fun. she should have a shuttle for a bobbin. If you can't find them I am able to get them in Minot where I get my machines cleaned and his wife has a fabric shop and sells Berninas.

She is beautiful & Happy Birthday!!!
I'm not sure but I think Sally is a Sphinx - and she is totally awesome! It looks like she is brand spanking new! Boy am I jealous!! Congratulations on a beauty!
Gorgeous machine and cabinet. Happy Birthday!
Sally is a "sphinx" in almost new condition...so lucky, enjoy her
Oh my Gosh Donna! You got a true beauty even if she is a reproduction! Being stored for all those years at the church seems to have kept her in gorgeous condition! Church ladies and quilting seem to go hand in hand, so I am surprised Sally wasn't snapped up before she ever made her debut on Craigslist. Congratulations and Happy Birthday to you!
I'd like to know more about the reproductions. Were they made with the same quality as the originals? I see we have some real vintage sewing machine experts here, so thought to ask. |
What a lovely way to "gift" yourself! Search for a serial number and then you can research online to see if its a reproduction. As for the cabinet, if its older it should have dove-tailed joints in the drawers. Anyway you look at it she is wonderful and I'm so green with envy! Enjoy! I hope to get one in the future, I did find one without a cabinet but the whole thing was froze up and would not work at all.
When was the reproduction made? Is it still an old machine? I would love to have one. Who manufactures them? I learned to sew on my Grandmothers but when she passed it disappeared. This would be the next best thing,

Sally is just beautiful!
Repo or not, she is still beautiful and will be a good sewing partner. Enjoy!
What a wonderful present!! I'm green with envy!
If she is the real thing, she is called a sphinx. They were made in the late 1800's. And even if she isn't, she is beautiful !!!!I am sure you will have many wonderful hours sewing with her !!!

OK, I've discovered a problem with Sally. When I first saw her, of course I pumped the treadle on her and saw her spinning the wheel. I know this is stupid, but I didn't even look at the needle. Now that she's home, I find that when I pump the treadle, her needle doesn't go up and down. It twitches like it really wants to, but seems to somehow be stuck? I have a manual that came with her, but it has no words in it at all....just pictures. I guess I'll have to start taking her apart to see if I can maybe find something jammed up that can be cleaned and oiled. Does anyone have any ideas what I need to be looking for? Help?
