ISO instructions for Kenmore 1980's machine

I need an instruction manual or just simple instructions for the cogs for a Sears/Kenmore 158.19801 sewing machine. The machine sews just fine, but I don't know how to change the stitch cogs ( I think that's what they're called) Any help would be appreciated.

You can go to searspartsdirect.com for parts list and manuals for many Kenmore machines. See if this link will take you directly to the listings for the 158.1980:

The last digit is which version of that model you have. As features were added, the number was increased with new releases. Any of the 1980 model manuals would be very similar so you can click "view manuals" under the 158.19800 model and it should help.

If that doesn't explain what you need, there are a couple of vintage Kenmore groups on yahoo groups and there is a vintage Kenmore sewing machines group on Facebook. They all have manuals in files and if they don't have your model, ask and someone may have one to post.

Those "stitch cogs" are called cams.

Good luck.

Do you mean you do not know how to remove the cams?

On Mum's old Elna, you pushed down on the top of the 'spool' tat cam sat on ad it popped up.

These are the lowest priced manuals I have found so far ( except for the free ones of course) It is always good to have a manual that shows where to oil and any special things the machine can do that you may not even know about without the manual. I will look through my manuals and see if I have one. :)
