Jones Family C.S. crank

  • Hi I'm brand new here and hopefully will learn much from you all. I want to play around and sew on my Jones crank machine but I need to understand about what thread is ok to use. Somehow I thought the older machines can't handle all the thread types. Any help would be appreciated.

i would think you would use any cotton thread as that was the only type available back when, & poly threads weren't thought of, but I would try anything and everything. You may need to adjust the tension for some. My mum used a Jones treadle machine all her life, no electric ones for her. My daughter has it now.

Here are a few videos for this machine.

My Jones handcrank isn’t picky about thread. I’ve used cotton or poly thread.
