Sorry to hear yo are not happy with you machine. I just love mine.

Candace, thanks for the info on how too use the foot pedal. My 301 has the same kind and all this time I have been using it backwards. Same for my daughter and her featherweight... Because I am the culprit who taught her how. LOL
Geri, good luck deciding what to do with your FW.

Thanks for tip on that strange foot pedal. How do I find out the mfgr date of this machine. I went to sew classic...looking for a 1/4"foot....strange website..could not figure out where to go....any other sites around. Thanks...still not sure if I want to keep this or not...I don't need a collection of machines.......have enough collections of other things!

That way is the backwards way. You shouldn't be stepping on cords:> If it works for you fine, but cramps in the foot are very common when you're using the foot control upside down.

I use the ball of my foot, but I arrange the pedal so the cords are to the front. The key to me was learning to roll my foot sideways, and not to try to "press down" with the ball of my foot like I do with my newer foot pedals (like those from the machines made in the 60's and newer).

For the machines I use a lot, the simple solution was to rewire a new style foot pedal on them. The ones I don't use often and are more for my "collection" can stay with the older style pedal.

If you go to ismacs.net you will find all sorts of info on Singers- including how to date it. I bought a quarter foot for mine called the Little Foot. It is a clear plastic foot. I would make sure your machine is well cleaned and serviced by a Singer repair person and then sew on it for a while before deciding if you are going to sell it or keep it. I have a Janome 11000SE with all the bells and whistles and I totally love it. But it weighs a ton and i don't like carting it all over for quilt group day so I bought a FW. I love it because it's light weight, oh so cute, and sews like a dream. Give it a chance before you decide to keep or not. Good luck!

I think somewhere I have that big foot for one of my "cheaper" singers.....didn't know it would fit n this FW.....I have a Brother Runway for classes, retreats, travels....acquiring this was just a flute.....really don't think I will keep it.....

FW's take low shank feet so any other standard (not slant shank) 1/4" foot should work on it.
